| Iva1201 chapter 8 . 11/13/2009
I am very glad that Snape is the Deputy, no matter what the students think. I for myself think he is a good Head of House in canon, and not a bad Headmaster in such a terrible situation either.

Good acting, Professor McGonagall. I would have trusted your grief genuine as well. I feel with Snape that he couldn't have been told - I know it would have hurt me as much as it did him at the end of the story.
| Iva1201 chapter 6 . 11/13/2009
I have finished the story already, so I know that Robert Crouch is actually Dumbledore, but I like the character nevertheless - especially later in the story when he is involved in Snape's care.
| Iva1201 chapter 5 . 11/13/2009
Pity Snape couldn't continue teaching Defence, but then he has much too many encounters with dark magic in his everyday life that's probably only for the best. And yes, the curse is still active, right?
| Iva1201 chapter 3 . 11/13/2009
I am very happy he told her, no matter the present costs to him. It will bring them much more in the future, though Severus will have to wait quite long to discover it.
| Iva1201 chapter 2 . 11/13/2009
I am really feeling with Snape here - learning that he likes Dumbledore and McGonagall and needing to come to the decision to part with the friendship he managed to built with them. But it's better to have a dead friendship than a dead friend, right?

Oh, oh, I may have tried this fic before after all here and was probably quite discouradged by the epilogue from the other story here. I think that simple statement that there was another story and the readers may like to look at it would have been sufficient. I for myself can tell that I liked the neat, alone-standing first chapter at The Pelutant Poetess better. I went back to check if I am correct and the chapter was really shorter and neater there and yes, it definitely is.
Anyway, the burial scene is very nicely done.

Right, I am probably blind. Very blind. )-: I mean it. Fanfiction . net is my archive, the place where I publish, read and review and add Snape stories worth reading to Severus Snape archive. And I have completely missed yours, this wonderful masterpiece that I am pretty sure the other Snape fans must enjoy as well!
I am glad that I found it over at Petulant Poetess and one of your reviewers there mentioned it's also available here. This way I will have much better access to it, since my computer is primary connected to this archive. I know for sure that I am going to reread many parts of it. (-:
Since I am no HG/SS shipper, I am not sure if I should try the sequel, but I very probably will - you write much too good for me not to look at it. I would wish that you keep the relationship between these two friendly only but I fully understand that you don't share my preferences.
Anyway, this fic was to my preferences, as I metioned already in the review on Pelutant Poetess. I am very happy it's published also here, "at my fanfiction home," if I can say it like that. (-:

“I hate what he did. I cannot forgive what he did. I hated the Death Eater who so cruelly maimed my mother, hated him for years,” Gareth said softly. “But hating Snape, while it could be quite an engrossing pastime, would do neither of us any good.”
“He’s not the same man,” Hermione said.
“He is the same man, Hermione, but he is also more.
I liked Gareth's take on forgiveness. It is too complex for me to have a proper opinion on (unlike the issue of mucking up time in storytelling, where you are clearly wrong) but it offers much to think of. The only fic I've seen that attacks the issue with comparable passion (though the result is unpalatable) is inadaze22's Broken.

Great - another way-back-in-time chapter. And we don't even get a warning or a subheading stating 'N months ago'. How sadistic ... and just plain sad. Well, I guess I just gotta skip it and go to the next chapter.

Gareth has the potential to be interesting. More Mel would have been nice too.
Trying to reconcile Hermione's opinion that there are no wizarding universities with Gareth's apprenticing to a master at Oxford. Hmm - I guess there are no one-teaching-many classroom post-high-school magical institutions and that the master's position at Oxford was a Muggle one.

Enjoyed the Snape-Hermione interaction. While I thought you wasted too many words on Ronald, at least they were of the 'RH was a youthful mistake' category. Compared to Sev's youthful mistake of joining Tom, having feelings for pond scum is nothing.
Hermione still comes off as a smart young girl having feelings for the first intelligent shaggable male she's ever met. But she also shows self-awareness of it.
The most implausible thing in the story so far is - why hasn't Voldemort killed Severus yet, with his repeated failures?
| lucyferr chapter 15 . 10/18/2009
Your Snape introspective is excellent.
| lucyferr chapter 14 . 10/18/2009
Gareth's words at Snape being unable to forgive others. Hm - that's an interesting point. At first I thought it was a lot of rot, since Snape clearly forgave Lily for abandoning him (though perhaps not for going on to marry the bully Potter), and he forgave Albus for allowing the Marauders to make his life miserable just because they were Gryffindors.
But then I figured that he hadn't actually forgiven them, because he hadn't thought they had sinned in the first place. Deep down he believes it is his lot to be abandoned and ignored (until he is of use to them), and when people displays such tendencies, it is only in keeping with his lot and not their fault.
So yes, your notions on Severus' attitude to forgiveness holds far more water than your dubious notions on time in storytelling.

Oh nice trick at the end! Salazar would have been proud.
I like this Minerva. I can totally see Hermione growing up to be like her, not like the Albus sycophant we see in canon.
Albus being patted on the head and told that he knows no better is hilarious.
