Reviews for Shadow Selves |

![]() ![]() ![]() When I read the title Audition I immediately thought of piano wire. No, wait, it was a wire saw. Wonderful. |
![]() ![]() ![]() "Why don't you ask me directly, Bat?" YES, I've been waiting for this conversation! 'Jonathan hesitated for a moment longer, before stepping out, slowly and cautiously as a deer walking into a meadow.' That has to be the strangest, most elegant comparison I've come across in fic. |
![]() ![]() ![]() 'It felt slightly wet, though there was nothing on his fingers when he let go.' I am caught between 'ew' and 'intriguing'. There's a sort of claymation story that follows the Sandman stealing children's eyes interpretation. 'Scarecrow wasn't sure if he wanted to scream or vomit.' I never mentioned it before, but you write the Scarecrow in a really humanizing way. I'm still surprised at how believable it is. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Iiiiit's Hurricane of Puns time! *dances* ...wait, beating the dolphin? o_0 |
![]() ![]() ![]() "They all pointed to an attachment disorder." Is that what they're calling it these days? |
![]() ![]() ![]() As a fellow book lover and Disney fan, I am very disappointed with myself because I didn't see that coming. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Okay, I can't do this. You keep dropping little comments about what happened previously and now I have to go read whatever happened before this. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Guh, well, I don't know how to explain my love for your Crane here, but paired with Bruce's exasperation, it's definitely one of the best characterizations for him I've read. I didn't know where to start reading with your fics, because the first few were, you know, 40 freaking chapters *in awe* but I found this one first, so... You've written so much! It's amazing. One hundred chapters of quality Crane/Bruce interaction many thanks from me. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Another thing I didn't mention is that you wrote the smut scenes really well. I don't know if that really counts for anything as I am also asexual. lol I was also really glad that Jonathan didn't get any further with Jonathan than what he did. I wonder how he will react when he finds out that Jonathan has slept with Bruce already. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah I am kinda rereading this. I just wanted to say, because I forgot last time that I love you had the Joker write KITTEN HA in capital letters. |
![]() ![]() ![]() You truly are an amazing writer. I just spent the last five days reading this series and I have just absolutely loved every second of it. (It took me 25hrs 19min in case you were wondering lolYeah I decided to time myself to see how long it would take) I really hope you do end up posting that oneshot because I would really love to read it. Bruce and Jonathan are SO cute together lol and I would have loved to have found out the reactions from Harley in particular after finding out how close Jonathan and Bruce had gotten. I have to say though I was a bit surprised that nothing more came of Joker. Not that I'm not happy about it. Anyway this story was absolutely addicting from start to finish. Reading this has actually made me want to rewatch batman begins lol. Anyways you're awesome. Well done! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm logging in for the first time in months to tell you how awesome you and your stories are. I started Act Like We Are Fools not really knowing what to expect, then I saw all the sequels and how many chapters they were and honestly thought I would get bored and stop reading long before then. Not so! I was so utterly enthralled with your characters and their awesome and unique brands of crazy that I ended up getting all the way to Shadow Selves, finishing everything within a two weeks. Then I saw you weren't going to be doing the sequel for a while so I moved onto "TDatNtAMS" and finished that today. I'll just say I love your writing and can't wait for updates from both your fics. P.S. I'm praying you'll do Batman/Joker one day ... the UST is just too much :D |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm a longtime reader, sparse commenter (sorry). I've been following most of your other series as they come - the earlier ones from this continuity and TDATNTAMS. I was originally drawn in by Harley, but was coverted to a keen Jonathan fan somewhere along the way! To be honest I got a bit left behind with The Knight and The Prince and then never quite got around to reading this story, since slash isn't my usual first choice of reading material. But the new fic has reminded me how I love your Jonathan so much, in either continuity, so I decided to give this one a shot. I think I've spent about ten hours over the past few days reading the entire thing. It was awesome, and I sometimes struggle to accept that you're a real person since I can't quite believe that any one person can churn out chapter after chapter of marvelous and thoughtfully plotted fic so quickly. So just thank you, and I hope that your amazing talent continues to bring you entertainment as you write! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I liked how Bruce was able to draw out more insight into Jonny's motives by (unwittingly) showing his vulnerable side. "Discriminate the stimuli." That was a wonderfully succinct phrasing, and a perfect reply on Jonny's part to Bruce's inquiry. So Jonny actually reigned in his sarcasm in the face of Bruce's obvious emotional pain... I am looking forward to seeing how his attitude toward Bruce may continue to soften. Particularly because Jonny was right on his heels again when he left the library. Oh, Tweety-Jonny, you're such an adorable, insecure super-villain. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Wow. WOW. *Excellent* job of bait-and-switch. The way you played out the conversation between Bruce and Natascha, I bought the notion hook, line and sinker that she knew his identity as Batman. I did NOT see that wonderful sharp dog-leg left in the fairway (how many other hackneyed metaphors can I use?), revealing that she actually thought that he is *gay*, and that explains his elusive behavior. That was fan-freaking-tastic! :) Bruce is smart to keep his mouth shut about her revelation, and not tell Jonny, for all the hilarious reasons you enumerated. I completely agree with you about the disappearance from the boat. It's every straight man's dream to be in the middle of the ocean with half-naked beautiful women. If he disappeared, I'd be raising my eyebrows as well. (Although one of the very few criticisms I'd make against TDK was that the actress playing Natascha was far too "big" - and I cringe to have to write that - to actually be a ballerina. Baryshnikov once told actress Lea Thompson that she was too fat to be a ballerina... and she was borderline anorexic to begin with. The actress playing Natascha was... let's just say, noticeably "endowed". Too endowed for anyone who actually trained 10-hours a day as a professional dancer. The other women on the boat also looked more like Tropicana models rather than waif-like dancers.) Ah, the stethoscope... I will be interested to see if this leads to Jonny's mocking Bruce, or if it opens up a window to tenderness. |
