This is probably one of the best written stories I've encountered in fan fiction. The only criticism I have of it is

I know it's been two years since you last updated, but it'd be great if you found the inspiration to finish this story off.

After seeing five seasons of the show, it’s always a nice surprise whenever you read about Chuck using his head for a change (Slightly ironic, given the Intersect, but whatever). He really kicked ass – at least in that first scene – disarming Chase as he did, after baiting him. “Sweep the leg!” Nice callback. Casey would be very proud. I liked also Chuck’s password in getting through to Beckman, though I was a little disappointed in the computer nerd in him. Chase was right in some respects; it wouldn’t take very long to guess that password!
I’ve said this before, but you’ve already established Beckman as cold and authoritative. This chapter just reinforces that – ordering Chuck kill Chase like that and then just hanging up. Man, that’s harsh!
Poor Sarah. Poor, poor Sarah. What a mess. Chuck really has become her crutch. There’s only even the remote possibility that he’s dead and she collapses, just completely falters. I can’t say I’m surprised; as you said, Chuck’s the only person she’s cared about since father. That flashback was really good, too. Well, not good. It was really sad, of course, but it really helped get across how Sarah got to where she is now. Also, Graham is an ass. I can’t help but feel that Graham disappeared Jack Burton just to get Sarah into joining the CIA. Makes sense – with the single mindset of wanting revenge for her father’s death, she’ll be angry, yet also cold, ruthless and efficient. Perfect for a new CIA recruit! Man. Anyway, it’s a good thing Bryce was there to help snap her out of her little breakdown. I particularly liked this line:
"Maybe later but right now, I think I'm going to go find my friend."
Bryce is a douche, but he’s got the right idea.
Chuck has balls; I have to give him that. It's a good thing Ellie trained him. The whole backflip thing was stupid as shit – particularly against four other guys – but it was brave. Pity it got him shot, haha.
The last scene was amazing. All that delicious Sarina. When you put them together (and no, not in that way, Max), they complement each other’s insanity pretty well. I loved how they were both going insane in looking for Chuck. Carina screaming at Casey down the radio was pretty funny. Bryce’s advice for Sarah to run was fitting, too. Carina probably would have killed her. Strangely caring for Bryce. I liked it. It shows just devoted Carina is to Chuck, when she joins up with Sarah to help him. Sarah’s anger and jealously upon realising that she probably wouldn’t do the same was well placed. And then everything goes to shit when they eventually find Chuck! Panic! His reactions were great, too – he seemed so relaxed when compared to the two of them, or maybe a little bit stoned.
I look forward to reading more Sarina in coming chapters. :)

Man, the dynamics of Chuck’s team are complicated and god…Bryce is certainly extremely in this chapter.
I really like how Sarah starts to see Chuck interacting with Bryce, given that she now knows about Jill and everything, and how different both of them appear to be when they’re together. Chuck, for example, seems to make it quite clear that he’s made his peace with Bryce to Sarah (though, perhaps that’s just because of the immediate situation and doesn’t want her distracted), despite it being blindingly obvious that he’s still incredibly angry at the guy. The added problem of Sarah being between them, too, and the potential for Bryce to take her away from him probably just reinforces that feeling. I don’t really get why Chuck’s faking it; I kinda want him to be angry with Bryce. I don’t think Chuck would be entirely satisfied with just punching him in the face – granted, he probably enjoyed it at the time – but for him to be joking about seems out of character. (Bryce is also a douche for joking about this). By laughing he seems to be devaluing his relationship with Jill, which is probably still important to him. It’s strange that Chuck sees Bryce’s friendship as important enough to be worth faking all this effort over. Maybe it’s just for the team dynamic.
Bryce, too, seems incredibly fake and Sarah rightly points this out. I was hoping for Sarah to hit him several times throughout this chapter. Unfortunately, Chuck keeps the peace. It’s pretty adorable that Sarah feels it necessary to defend Chuck, as well. Sarah trying to digest all the dynamics is pretty amusing. It just makes Chuck more of a mystery to her and at the same time, makes her want him more. I also like the brief mention of Casey, and the speculation that Chuck is capable of changing people.
Onto the action! The action was fun. You’ve been pretty consistent in demonstrating Sarah’s abilities while stressing she’s not in top shape. I love how she was still trying to impress Chuck throughout all of this, yet worried about how he might perceive her shooting people and being generally badass. It’s a nod to her professional (though, probably more her instinctive need to defend Chuck) that she can co-operate with Bryce throughout all of this.
Oh, I liked the nod to Sarah’s ass and low-hanging tracksuit bottoms (Is that right? I’m not sure if that’s what you Americans call them). I’m sure Chuck did, too. Sarah decking out in tactical gear is pretty fun, haha. Chuck’s move of fiddling with the glock when he told Sarah he knew what he was doing was clever. Pretty dark, but clever. Trust that to make Sarah more attracted to him. Haha.
And Chuck’s gone! He’s been shot! What?!
| JoeltotheD chapter 9 . 1/5/2013
Man, Max, you’ve got her obsessing again! Over Chuck, no less. I wouldn’t have thought she’d be doing that any more, not after everything he said to her last chapter – oh, wait. He’s wiped her hands with her…laaaaaaaaaame.
Maybe I’m overanalysing, but she seems reluctant to go back to the CIA as a Bryce’s cover girlfriend. Whether being deemed a cover girlfriend by the CIA hits too close to home with that the CIA did to mess her up in the place, I’m not sure. But, heh. I get that impression.
Chuck came back! The alarm went off and Chuck came back. Of course he did! I’m not surprised, but Sarah certainly is. I loved her reaction to his reaction when she jumped him. Quiet amusement. It’s nice that she can laugh like that now – even when danger is likely just around the corner. Oh, and she’s more afraid of what she’ll do to Chuck then the people outside… Man, our girl’s not that crazy. Though she tries. The callback to canon was nice here, too:
“She got a brief glimpse of a potential future then: Her always trying to keep Chuck safe, always looking out for him, always worrying herself to death over him, and he never listening, always risking his life for her, always going his own way no matter how much she begged him not to, her always saying no to him and then always caving.”
I love that this excites her.
I can’t decide whether Chuck here is just naïve or actually knows Sarah that well, by giving her gun. I mean, he offers to help her escape if she wants to. He’s risking his life (and probably his career, but, honestly, who really cares about that) for her because he believes she can change and have a normal life somebody. Maybe Chuck’s watched too many movies. Heh. I think I’ve been a little harsh to him in previous reviews.
…And she doesn’t believe it. She can’t. It’s too hard. He’s burnt her before as she points out, and he could just be fucking with her again. And then Chuck goes apeshit and disarms her! (This got me wondering whether these were skills Casey and Carina had taught him, or whether this was Intersect. Personally, I think to think the former). I liked Chuck’s little speech about how he wished he could stop thinking about her but he can’t, and how he just wants to help her have a normal life. That was a nice honest moment. How very natural of Sarah to get turned on by it, haha.
Also, man, where was the following kiss?! It was such a perfectly twisted moment for it, too!
This line really made me laugh:
“That means YOU will be my partner. YOU will debrief me. YOU will be my cover boyfriend,” realizing what she said, she hastily clarified, “or whatever other cover they determine for us. Only you, Chuck. That's my one condition.”
Whatever other cover they determine for us? Right, Sarah. Right. Exactly what you want.
She was sensible to back off on the Carina issue, too. She knows she’s hitting his vulnerability. Something maybe powerful enough to overcome his feelings for her. I’m glad that Sarah’s onboard with escaping and working for the CIA now, but I still get the sense that she’s already starting to look at Chuck like a mark (probably sub-consciously). She probably doesn’t have much other relationship experience to go off!
Great chapter, Max.
