| MirrorCradle chapter 5 . 7/1/2012
Hey! I haven't had the chance to review this story (at all, although it was mostly my laziness), so, first of all, I'd like to apologise for that... but secondly, I want to say that this is truly an amazing story. You capture not only the romance between Sephiroth and Genesis perfectly but the complexity and pain of war with remarkable accuracy. More importantly, let me tell you that I cannot begin to explain how much this story has meant to me. The way you expanded and created these characters is amazing. You changed them, strengthened them, and made them your own. It is impossible to read and live through this adventure without becoming emotionally invested in the lives that you've plotted out. On the above point, I think that Sephiroth especially was written so tastefully that I have to applaud you You've created a work of art, and I immensely appreciate the time and effort you put into it. Take care and good luck! Pauline

Oh, I can't really express how much this story has moved me. It was so bittersweet, especially the ending (I'm still crying!). It was so filled with emotion, and so detailed that I couldn't help but get sucked into Seph and Gen's world. Thank you for writing such a great story! And I hope that one day, we can all face up to what we did and not forget to hide the ugly truth. Thank you again for writing this story. It's the best fanfic I've read so far!

Had me crying by the end...((sniff)) Fantastic story..
| SSGA chapter 5 . 9/11/2011
I really don't know why I didn't review this story sooner, I really don't know. Like all you're stories, it's a masterpiece. I know that everybody has said so many things before me but it won't suffice. Your style is unique. As I said in "Devil's spawn" the one who reads your stories finds himself in the scene, this along with the way you cause the readers feel whatever the characters are feeling is the ultimate goal of writing( it's not what I say, the writers say) and you've accomplished it. You're beyond words for me to describe, also your art.
Well I first found your story when it was completed untill the chapter where Sephiroth is awaiting Genesis' army. Then I lost it and again found it, yet I didn't expect it to be this tragic, I don't know whether you were crying writing Sephiroth's death scene but I confess, I was trying hard not to cry. And when Genesis found out a day later, it made me die, if I were him then I would have suicided then right there( it's so heartbreaking).
There are many beautiful scenes which I really love them and if I were to name them I have to retype your story here, but let me name a few.
The one I liked the most was when Sephiroth was asleep and then he heard the people( maybe soldiers, I don't remember correctly) scream "Reds" and he didn't understood untill the end of the russian roulette. I immensely enjoyed this scene, as other readers said you made the story, flowing, like a movie on it's own. As much as I try to describe how I feel toward this scene I yet can't do it the way it deserves.
The next scene was when Genesis came back to Sephiroth to start anew.
I say again, if I really were to write my favourite scenes I had to rewrite your story here.
You make your stories the way they will never be forgotten so if all history books were written the way you do we would have cherished it but not all people are you. Also know that by writing this story you've made a lot of people a big fan for Russia, and a big enemy for bolshevics.
Anyway, there are lot to say but you know them all. I don't know whether there will be people reviewing after me( *blushes* I'm really ashamed for being this late) but let me proudly say that If not the first but atleast the second reader of your story was I( it's genuinely an honor to be a reader of your stories and I'm honored to be one of the few first readers yet it adds to the shame and regret I feel for not reviewing my dear story sooner, I apologize and hope you understand the depth of my apology and again honor me by accepting it) and I'm honored( I know you're thinking that I'm an arrogant person, but this story is my most favourite one and I'm really possessive when it comes to things I like this much XD ) Thank you for being yourself and writing this masterpiece, you truly honored whole FFnet by doing so.

Gorgeous. Imagery, history, personality. This story really touches your heart.
The past is the past; long ago but never forgotten.

I have to applaud you. This made me break into tears when I read the last chapter, with Sephiroth being shot and Genesis finding out a day too late... it was just so heartbreaking sad... Just beautiful!
| OnexLostxSoul chapter 5 . 12/25/2010
OnexLostxSoul is making her rounds. ;) This, my dear, is undoubtedly the best integration of characters into a historical AU that I have ever read. That being said, it is also one of the most well written pieces of fanfiction I've ever read. Let us explore the reasons why.
Foremost, the historicism in the fiction isn't just merely a backdrop. It is central, an electrifying and dynamic setting with thematic implications. You utilize the theme of war to stab a dagger into the reader's heart, and the theme of personal tragedy to twist it. This piece is layered with dimensions communicating the effects of warfare both on the general populace and on two lovers. The historical context was employed to maximum effect.
Your writing is what I like to call a two-way street of victory. You use the character's perspective to color the events, and the events to color the character himself. An example:
"That child's face… it was the face of a war. Seeing it never stopped hurting."
This is a powerful insight into both the events of the war, and Sephiroth's own character. You utilize this method consistently throughout the piece, and it is overwhelmingly effective. The philosophical and idealogical matters you raise during the story are so befitting, so intriguing!
Stylistically, very accomplished. If I may quote an excerpt:
"Sephiroth looked up, drowning in passion tinged celestial blueness, darker than usually. Unbuttoned, disarrayed Genesis was a beautiful firing sight, unruly auburn hair falling all over his face, inflamed with warm rays of setting sun."
I encountered many passages of excellent description such as this, with jaw-dropping imagery. The subtlety and class with which you describe Sephiroth and Genesis' intimacy demands utmost respect.
Plot-wise, you had me riveted. My eyes never strayed once from the fic. You packed the story full of suspense, tension, and monumental decisions that define both the story and the characters. The Russian roulette scene, for instance, was a very realistic struggle packed with emotional appeal. Details such as Genesis' marriage, the typhus fever, Sephiroth's eventual capture and test of loyalty, and the lovers' fate all tied together into a phenomenal tale. You ended it tragically, and all too fittingly.
In short... Thank you for blessing the fanfiction community with your brilliance.
| The Philosopher's Queen chapter 5 . 4/29/2010
I know this story is now several months old, but I just finished it, and I had to throw my comments in! Having studied Russian history extensively in the last three years, and being a fan of both Sephiroth and Genesis, I absolutely LOVED this story! You kept it true enough to the actual events, and the gritty realism was exceptional!
A thouroughly enjoying read, indeed. It was a pleasure, even if the ending did have me tearing up!
| Leto Mireille chapter 2 . 3/14/2010
While waiting for new chapter of "Devil's Spawn" I've reached for your other stories. I must say, you have incredible talent for historical AU and give so detailed description of historical events.
One time I almost started to cry. In chapter 2 you write that Sephiroth was fighting in the Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes. I was born near Augustow. I come from the land of Masurian Lakes. To see this even mentioned by someone from another nation, someone who lives so far away... You've mede my day, no, week!
Not many fiction writers from my country places their stories there.
Now I respect you even more. You have the strength and pride to write about your nation's history.
When I read this, I don't see words. It's like movie but more intense. I can almost feel the cold of winter's night, the weariness of soldiers, hopelessness of their situation, their fear and despair. Maybe it's because there is still snow outside...
| ladylina chapter 5 . 2/25/2010
You build this up rather spetacularly. I was pretty sure something like that would happen, but it was built up not for the surprise, I feel. Rather, after so many words of hardships and pure agony (seriously, I was clenching my hands throughout this), and Seph's last moments... I think the long breath I took when he died was out of relief.
| SherrySummer chapter 5 . 12/12/2009
I can't believe I actually cried. XD It was beautifully done. I loved that you gave a chance for Sephiroth to talk to Kappel. I found the conversation very moving, and the way Sephiroth refused to bargain with the Reds and the way he faced his death were just like him. And Genesis' love for Sephiroth came across so convincingly. Great job overall. _
| SherrySummer chapter 4 . 12/12/2009
You know this is just so sad, but you do such a wonderful job describing the despair and courage that shines through a hopeless struggle. I wish the white army made it so that Sephiroth doesn't have to die. It's like my desperately wishing for Marc Antony to beat Octavian when I was watching 'Rome', knowing that he just is not going to win. Well, some characters are just worth reading about even when it is so painful to see them lose.
| SherrySummer chapter 2 . 12/12/2009
Wow. :) This is great. You probably didn't know I rarely read tragedy. But your portrayal of Sephiroth and Genesis is truly something, and I am addicted to it. The setting is quite gripping and very realistic. And I loved how you moved from the present to the past, and back to the present. It all flows very well. There is so much drama in this, and your characterisation is again spot on. Their love and passion is beautifully and convincingly told. Great job. _
