Beautiful. Thank you
| Guest chapter 1 . 12/21/2013
I'd never thought of Legolas and Sam as a likely pair...they have so little interaction in the books and movies. But the similarities between them are striking, Sam to Frodo, and Legolas to Aragorn. And I started to realize that they may understand each other better than anyone else, in that desire to protect someone dear, and the pain of being separated from them.
The description of Legolas' sea longing is beautiful and powerful, and Sam's simple honesty and devotion is enough to tear your heart in two. By the end of it, I was crying (although I blame that partially on my playlist choosing to play 'May it Be' towards the end).
Heartwrenching, and yet very warm and fuzzy at the same time...and masterfully written. Thank you :)

That was beautiful. I think you described Legolas' emotions in relation to the sea-longing perfectly.

Great story! I really enjoyed it! You really packed a lot of emotion in and I really felt what you wrote!

wow. just, wow. i have to say, amazing. there are so few stories that have legolas and sam, and even fewer who actually bother to give legolas a character. he's a bit of a prince charming, you know, and mary sues surround him like moths. but here, ohmygod. sam and legolas are such contrasts usually, but you bring them together in a very unique and well portrayed friendship. loved your fragmented organization, and well, your tone is beautiful, sad and painful and so much gRIEF. the sea, ohgod, the sea. thank you so much for writing this, and, well done. congratulations.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. I can think of few other stories that have depicted friendship, longing, and sacrifice so powerfully as you have. And in such an original way!
The whole story has an air of melancholy, but some parts are heartbreakingly painful. A very moving piece, and one of the best friendship stories on this site. This is one that can be read over and over.

Wow...this was really well written. Full of emotion and I thought it was a brilliant and powerful story. :)

This is good because it shows different struggles between the seemingly "perfect" elf Legolas and the little hobbit samwise have something similar. They each have their cracking weaknesses. Overall, not a very good review, but you have a very good story. Thanks!

A great story. Very well written.

This was so heartbreakingly beautiful. I don't even have words. I don't know what to say or how to review. Just, gorgeously written.
| Vendie of Rivendell chapter 1 . 4/14/2011
Beautifully written! The friendship between Legolas and Sam is not something you generally see in fanfiction, and you did an excellent job of portraying them together. I absolutely loved this. Thanks for sharing!
| Thundera Tiger chapter 1 . 12/2/2010
I have no idea how I missed this story. My email must have eaten my review alert. I'm horrified at the lapse! This story...this story is breathtaking. Rarely have I seen Sam paired with so complimentary a companion. You create such a friendship between Legolas and Sam, giving each one such depth and so many parallels with the other.
But more than that, I love the way you show the paradox of growing old and not growing at all. Sam ages so much by the end of the story, and one can feel wisdom and understanding welling up. But Legolas...Legolas feels very much the same. There are few changes, to be sure, but not nearly as many as what Sam has experienced. It's as though Sam has gone through a lifetime of learning (which is true) and Legolas is still...well, Legolas. Elves may have the wisdom of the ages, but it takes them ages to acquire that wisdom. Never have I seen that so well-portrayed as in this story.
I loved the flashbacks, too, and the intensity with which Legolas fought to go to the Sea. Or the intensity with which both Sam and Legolas grieved and wept and looked to the Sea. The emotions in this story brought it all together, even though it's really a series of episodes told over fragmented years without even a chronological order to link them. Emotion is the link instead, and it's a stronger link than anything else could be. Breathtaking and beautiful! You ripped my heart out with this one!

A most wonderful story of friendship and the bonds that keep them. Wonderfully well written and your portrayal of the characters and their relationships was spot on. Good job!
| Larner chapter 1 . 9/8/2010
I'm glad Legolas chose to remain in Middle Earth until Aragorn had left it, but there is no question it cost him deeply at times. And I'm glad he was there for Sam at the end.
