Aw! Poor Kaylee. I felt really bad for her in this episode. Kaylee didnt deserve any of it. But of course she always pulls through. I hope that you write more about these two!

I really, truly enjoyed your story. You captured all the characters just right, from their inner thoughts/feelings to the way they speak. Fantastic job. :]

One of the things I liked most about this story is that the situation with Kaylee's feelings and fears after Early was portrayed very realistically and I feel like you really understand the whole situation well. As I read I was waiting for Kaylee to talk about sex and that aspect of her fears so I was very glad when you had her and Inara discuss it. You see it like I imagine it to be. For Kaylee sex has always been something enjoyable, something that is mutually enjoyable to both she and the boy or man she is with, sure she has heard of bad situations but that hasn't ever really been something she thought of in relation to her. But now for the first time she can imagine the physical actions as something bad or mean or cruel and that scares her. I think what Inara told her was good, that rape isn't sex, they aren't the same and that most men would never want to even consider doing it, that it is totally different. So Kaylee is assured that she shouldn't be scared all the time and that helps towards her moving forward. I also liked the sense of family that you create here: Mal sees River as family, everyone sees Kaylee as their mei mei, Mal sees himself as being the provider, the head of the "house" so to speak. And I liked the end, with Simon and Kaylee, clearly he is the perfect man for her, at least in this story. The only thing that seemed unlikely is the idea that Kaylee would be able to go a few weeks without going into the engine room and fixing something, a week at most, but not a few weeks. I understand her hesitation and I can't blame her but realistically they need her in there fixing stuff.

For once it's Simon who knows the right thing to say, and Mal with his foot in his mouth. It makes a change! This fits in so perfectly, but all the way through I wanted Mal to stop being such an idiot and say what he really thinks. Because nothing usually stops him. And Inara is just as bad. That's why I find it so hard to imagine them ever being able to stay together - two such stubborn people would be fighting each other all the way.

Nice handling of these unresolved emotional issues from Early's visit.
I always found it interesting how River's actions were portrayed as heroic in OiS and Inara ended up threatened, with a fat lip and Kaylee was scared out of her wits with no one really caring to address how these two women might feel on board Serenity now, especially since neither one have the physical or mental ability that River does. It just never feels right.
Thanks for posting and sharing your talents:)
| Bytemite chapter 1 . 8/16/2009
This story covers some very important and less commonly addressed issues arising just after Objects in Space, and does so very well. River would still feel unwanted after hearing what they said, and certainly her feeling wouldn't go away because there's another conference about her AGAIN in the movie. Kaylee would feel guilty and scared.
Very good job showing them if not completely healed, at least moving in the direction of healing.
There is one little thing, I find it a little hard to believe that Inara could possibly imagine feeling smug or satisfied if Kaylee lost a little of her shine. I don't really see petty maliciousness in Inara's nature.
But apart from that, spot on characterization, and whoa, it's a TamSibling story! o.o Where you been, girl?

As usual, the emotion you put into your stories leaves me in awe. This is the best, post "Objects In Space" fic I have read, hands down.
As Kaylee Described her fear to Inara, I could feel it myself.
Well, well done
