i liked it.
| songbird1313 chapter 1 . 6/26/2013
This was amazing! I wanted to cry at the end, it was just so raw and emotional expressed in so few word. That last paragraph did it for me.
| DidiSummers chapter 1 . 5/11/2013
Such a sad, but beautiful story! :D
| Jhiz chapter 1 . 2/9/2013
That was painful... not painfully written... it was actually quite well written but reading it was painful. You did a great job tempering the passion with the pain. Thank you for sharing!
| TessLouise chapter 1 . 1/25/2013

Oh, my heart! This was so sad but absolutely beautiful. You captured that tenderness, that vulnerability in Spike so very well. The writing was lyrical and flowed so naturally. Well done, really. I can't wait to read more of your work!

You know, yours are the first REALLY good BtVS fics I've seen on this site. And I've been looking for a while.
I like that you see a human and a vampire they become as one person - greatly changed, but basically the same person. A vampire may not have a soul or conscience, but they still have free will and they have the human's memories. As far as we know, the demon that takes place of the soul doesn't exist before that in any form, doesn't bring its own memories and values and stuff. It's created the moment the human is turned, out of the darkest and ugliest parts of what they were - that's how I see it. So I'm not buying that whole "two separate beings" crap. In BtVS vampires have exactly the same ability to make choices as humans have - that's what makes most of them evil. Otherwise they would be just like predatory animals - we don't see a tiger as evil just because it kills to eat, that's what tigers do and the whole good vs. evil distinction doesn't apply. In my opinion this ability to choose makes any vampire's attempt to do something right much more significant. Like Harmony said on "Angel" - they don't have souls, so they have to try that much harder. In the end it's exactly like you wrote in FtTP - if Spike wants to find a way to get his soul back, it means he doesn't really need it.
Huh. I guess you can see from that rant that I don't have anyone around to discuss this stuff with. Or I really need to go and write a BtVS fic myself. ;) Or possibly both.
Anyway, back to the review. I can't find a single thing to complain about in your stories. Characterisation is perfect (I wasn't really sure about Buffy's wallflower act in FtTP at first but you convinced me), your ideas are great (if not exactly original, but hey, there's nothing wrong with offering your own take on a classic like time-travel), you're equally good at dialogue and at descriptions, details are amazing (though I know very little about Victorian England, so I have no way of knowing if they are actually right) and above all, there's real emotion behind it all. Both this fic and parts of Forward to Time Past made me tear up a little. And there is plot! Real, complicated, detailed plot that makes sense and makes you want to see what's going to happen next! From what I've seen that's a rarity in BtVS fics. ;)
Thank you so much for your work. :)
Oh, and I really wish you had some stories in your Favorites, I suppose that would make finding more gems in this sea of crap a bit easier. ;)

*swallows hard* I really prefer this version over what really happened. It would have been especially heart-wrenching after she died. Imagine that, Spike having her, just a taste, knowing and expecting that he wouldn't get anymore, but hoping none-the-less. And then she was gone, a puff of air on a hot day, teasing and refreshing, but ultimately leaving things more unbearable than if it had never come before.
