Erik Penrose chapter 52 . 11/1 To anyone looking to read this story by looking to the end of chapters for a review summary, know that is what this review is for. I give a tentative recommendation due to how well written the story is and how it tackles the bond in a unique manner, but it is only tentative due to the author's use of deus ex machina to force the conflict and action sequences. A further breakdown of my reservations are below. This story is incomplete, but I do no feel I wasted my time, it is excellently written and mostly enjoyable. If you are however like me, you may disagree with the authors takes on certain sections. Chapters 43-45 are imo unbearable involving kidnapping and worse (suggested mostly), I feel like JKR, the author got lost in their own plot, and ignored their characters to achieve it. This entire novel has shown these character to not be...to quote Snape...such dunderheads. But they all self sabotage to allow these chapters to exist, Harry reverts completely to canon form, stripping him of all his growth, becomes stupid, infects all his bond mates including Hermione, they all forget their portkeys, that they were all just given, after being drilled by an Auror all day about running away and to always keep the portkeys on themselves. And the worst thing is you can skip it all and have nothing change, and I mean nothing. No one dies (not even the bad guys), no villains are captured, none of the heroes involve have any change (not even Harry's anger issues, nor the adults not telling them things is ever addressed or brought up). The characters at chapter 42 and 46 have had zero change, they had their growth in this novel stripped away from them to force them into danger, then 'grow' back up to where they were to start, but only after a harrowing experience that they would have avoided anyways. But anytime you read 42,000 words and nothing changes but your heart rate it is a very missed opportunity. There is a sign of this in the story before, Chapter 27: The Graveyard Finally. The author showed how many ways the characters, smarter and better now than before could have prevented it, teased by letting them each just about stop it but only too late, but it was contrived to happen, they should have all acted sooner, none should have delayed, and there were no reasons to for any of them to do so. This does not mean I regret reading, no I enjoyed it mostly, but it was skim reading for some parts which is a shame. I only look forward to the way the author has the interpersonal relationships between the pairings as it is a treat and well written. But the 'action' sequences feel unnatural to me, always forced into existence. JKR had to make every adult in the entire wizarding world evil or incompetent to allow for Harry Potter to have to be the hero, authors tend to forget this when they write ones who are competent, that the dangers Harry faces can't come out of the same level of machinations that JKR could get away with. Still I do not regret reading this story, just lament they did not make light of the Dark Lord like they did in HP and the Champion's Champion. They write comedy quite well, and treating the dark lord in a less serious manner would allow them to explore the bond far more than just kidnapping them over and over again. |
Satyapan chapter 52 . 10/28 Another novel left incomplete. So sad. |
dixonjason403 chapter 4 . 10/11 on one hand, this is a very accurate depiction of a near canon harry. problem with that is canon harry is an immature child .thats works great for kids books, but awful for any fanfic you actually want the readers to take remotely seriously. |
dixonjason403 chapter 2 . 10/11 so if the story only really starts AFTER the second event...what is the story actually about? the third event alone isnt exactly a ton of content, and i dont think anyone wants to read 400,000 words full of nothing but relationship stuff, so is there an actual plot? or is the story just gonna copy canon but with waifus? |
Baz62 chapter 18 . 9/15 Again this displays Dumbledore's arrogance. This is where he should have involved the Department of Mysteries. Surely horcruxes would come under their brief and he could have asked them not to disclose their findings. Why does he seem to think he is the only authority. |
gadoora chapter 9 . 9/13 It is really annoing that they have french accent when thinking, that doesn't make any god damn sense... |
arata7kasuga chapter 52 . 9/11 so is this abandoned? |
