*snerk* Oh, dear.
...Ah, by any chance, would you happen to remember where you got that little fact? I do appreciate historical accuracy, but it's hard to find good sources.

amused at her puzzlement and it seems that even though inuyasha may not know the exact implications of his actions he's merely acting on instinct. i always thought of him as i would see an abused child or animal who growls and snaps and doesn't trust. to gain the trust of an abused person/animal one feeds them and soothes them with small gestures and touches until they realize they're safe with that person (in the case with some abused children that's when they act out more to test the person's tolerance and that sadly they've been convinced no one would want them they try to prove that by trying to push others away until they realize that the new person isn't going away and won't hurt them).
the japanese culture even in these modern times is totally non-demonstrative and especially not in public. every time kagome and inuyasha casually touch, when he carries something for her, when he carries her really means a lot. they have quite the 'unspoken' romance right under everyone's nose (in western culture).
i found this little gem as i was foraging through archives for some good reading.
if you've never seen/read/heard of 'rurouni kenshin' i would like to recommend it. they've made a new live action movie that is being released internationally and it looks to be really great... they've released a new OVA series and a brand new/different manga story that i believe the movie is partially based on.
if you plug in the following code in the youtube search engine you can see a few of the trailers :
the anime can be watched anywhere they show anime on line. the same with the manga.

I always love it when people tie in historical customs and tidbits into stories like you did! Kagome's obliviousness is also kinda cute lol. Such a nice little snippet!
