Your-Room-Is-A-Mess chapter 1 . 1/17/2013 I like this fic. This Hermione is the culmination of the horror she was in DH and that had been stewing since PoA. Quite self-rightous, vicious and narrow-minded. Even the long speech, drawn-out, condescending and even a little repetitive, is quite Hermione-ish (she learnt from the best, Dumbledore). Even her plan is so unnecessarily flowerished and complicated, quite Hermione-ish yet again. It reminded me of the Polyjjuice Potion (Invisible Cloak would have been enough to stalk Draco around and know if he realy is the Slytherin's heir or not) or the D.A 'sneak' spell (so she's friends with Harry Potter and she never thought of Fidelius to keep either the organisation or the Room of Requirements -whatever that spell works like - a secret?). Anyway, I'm rambling. I do like this fic very much so. A little criticism though. Hermione is a bookworm, she's intelligent but in a sort of compendium way. Notice all of her knowledge comes from books. This is as far JKR can make her, because a character is only as smarter as the author... unless it's an informed ability, tell and not show. Hermione is neither intelligent in a intituive way nor is she creative. For all of her cleverness, she never makes her own spells, while Snape was doing it at the very most 15 and Sirius / James showed something similar when they made the Marauder's Map. The Accio and Four-Point spells were never said to be created by her (I'd think people would have gushed over this otherwise in-universe) and while I don't remember much from DH, I don't think the spells she used there were made by her, either. Furthermore, she was called a pedestrian by Trelawney and this was further reinforced by her inability to stray from the Potions textbook in her sixth year. So because of all this, I don't think the DoM would have extended an Unpseakable invitation to her, let alone make her the Head of it. If not enough, can you imagine, this girl in the DoM going crazy because she's obsessive about getting answers and the DoM is a place to study the unknown? She'd drive herself and fling herself through the veil in the first month she'd be there. Then again, JKR made the DoM kind of pedestrian too, with the interview where she says the Room of Love is just a cauldron of Amortentia. Like I said, as inteligent as the author. Other than that, I really like this fic. I do agree Ginny is a worthless character. I don't like Harry much either, so I there's some knee-jerk reaction from him being paired with Luna. She is completely clueless these people aren't her friends and I think she deserves much better. So does Ron for that matter. He might not be 1/10 of the charming boy he was at 11-13, but he didn't deserve to end up with Dolores Umbridge v2.0 |
SlashMyDreams chapter 1 . 1/2/2013 Your Hermione is quite frankly terrifying. It fits in well with the canon portrayal, but it's a way OTT reaction. |
Ratus chapter 1 . 12/19/2012 OK, that was very good, dark as midnight at the bottom of a well, but very good. Is there going to be more to this or will it just be this one shot? |
Robert Harrison chapter 1 . 12/19/2012 This story was well written, well thought out, and the delivery was chilling in its excellence. Definately one of the best one-shot stories I have ever read. Ever. As for your Hermione... I am now terrified of hurting Harry in any meaningful way and he's a fictional character! Well done Sir or Madam (This pen name and profile made it difficult to decide which)! |
Molochai chapter 1 . 12/19/2012 I love what you've done with this story! While I'm not a fan of the canon epilog, you've laid out a believable and reasonable end result. I love Hermione's thoughts and feelings towards Ginny's betrayal. Go Team Hermione! |
Syd-of-the-Funny-Hat chapter 1 . 11/4/2012 I can see this happening the summer after Albus Severus' first year at Hogwarts. Beautifully rational-and more than a little scary. |
Ibskib chapter 1 . 9/15/2012 It's an engaging portrayal of Hermione, and I think it would be the most enjoyable way to read a darker Hermione, without totally obliterating her canon personality. It would be very interesting to see how that interpretation would work in longer fic, both during the Hogwarts Years and after. I really liked how the magic was explained, and the part of Hermione's monologue where she went into her fascination with languages, was beautifully written. |
Georgerocksthehouse chapter 1 . 9/8/2012 Wow. This is... deep. And I actually can see it happening, completely in canon. Just amazing. |
PuckForPresident chapter 1 . 8/20/2012 Plausible, super creepy and absolutely fascinating! I love your take on Hermione, especially because I can see where you're coming from. If you are a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, you can draw parallels between Hermione's behavior in this story to Willow's behavior during the Tabula Rasa episode. However, Willow was always a bit selfish and easily ruled by her own whims, which led to her downfall. Hermione is the exact opposite-her devotion to the helping underdogs like house elves and making sure Neville Longbottom passed potions exemplify her selflessness and concern for others. This makes her even more dangerous, because you don't know what she would do. Still, amazing fic! |
BretheBabbit chapter 1 . 7/31/2012 New favorite! |
karmenhyne chapter 1 . 7/26/2012 Oh. Now here's an exceptional piece of work. I've read some dark Hermione fics, but none of them is at all like this one. I commend you! My favorite quote: "Heaven hath no rage like love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a woman scorned." And I absolutely love her protectiveness of Harry. Even if it was taken to the greatest extremes. |
Guest chapter 1 . 7/3/2012 Absolutely brilliant. I am in love with your depiction of Hermione. It made me shudder to think about how ruthless and vicious she can actually be. Furthermore, it wasn't empty-handed writing - the little bits and pieces of canon that you stuck in: amazing. I could say a lot more about this piece, but I'll leave it here. Good luck with med school! |
Eleanor the great chapter 1 . 3/26/2012 Jesus. That was really brilliant. I adored the parts about language (I've studied Latin and Old Norse), that was simply such a pleasure to read. I loved this, I always thought Hermione had a dark side, and this just beautifully rendered that possibility into the most excellent form. I don't have anything to critique. It was simply awesome, in the true sense of the word. |
JeniDRalph chapter 1 . 3/19/2012 Wow! That was AMAZING! I feel that you really hit the nail on the head with this one. You seem to understand Hermione (a character I really thought I understood) better than anyone else I've read. Your A/N is spot-on.. her "dark side" was more of a slippery, cunning, you'll-never-know-it's-coming, Slytherin-esque sort. Thank goodness she was muggle-born or Voldemort would have surely won (unless Snape could have tamed her as Head of House, somehow). I've really enjoyed this and I'm sure I'll be back to read it several times over. |
Dustii chapter 1 . 2/28/2012 Wow! Totally caught me off guard, but I enjoyed it maniacally. Your use of canon events and quotes really added to the eerie feeling. |
