So, Damn, Awesome! I've been waiting for updates to Firefly/HP stories but no luck. Then, I find your story and wham! Not only is it well written, but it's interesting to boot. I only hope this is not going to go into mary sue/gary stu territory or OverPowered, fixer upper, emo, emotionally/socially PC overly polite land with zero plot or believable conflict. Looks pretty safe from all that so far, but we'll see what we see. I can't wait for you to update, and that right soon!

This is a pretty good story, I really hope this will get continued more regularly, years between updates is far too long, heck I got difficulties enough with months or even weeks between updates.

As usual, another great chapter. Longer than the last, which pleases me, and breaking off at a natural feeling cliffhanger.

I like your interpretation of River's ability and how it affects her mind. I also loved the line you had Harry use to diffuse the row River and Simon were about to get into. That line is probably the one I wish every whiny whoa is me Harry was given with a healthy dose of reality checking.

I am curious as to how Harry and Sirius(maybe Luna if she ever gets to join) will use their magic as they come to trust the rest of the crew of Serenity. There are several uses for canon spells/magic that would only require minor tweaking at most. With all that Miranda has to offer, as an entire planet with resources that have been just sitting idly just waiting for use. Sure, most of the ready to eat food would be rotten or contaminated after so long but bulk space food wouldn't nor any gardens(though most would be overgrown more than anything).

I am curious to if you had Harry or Sirius pack any books away, in particular spell crafting books or how to modify spells books, as I have no doubt River would love to look some over.

As for meditation, I would have suggested it myself(as one of those No-Majs and thus entirely from a non-magical perspective) to River. Scientists don't like it but meditation, just like martial arts, is about control of one's self(martial arts is just a physical representation of that control to meditation's mental aspect). Its why they are capable of doing things most consider superhuman, such as diving from over 11.56m(37ft 11 inches) into 12 inches of water or other extreme sports.

That... That was fucking hilarious and probably the best Kaylee kicking over the anthill that was expectations I have ever read and I have read Green Eyes, Brown Coat(or was it the other way around). I have to say that was my favorite story, though there were parts I wasn't satisfied with that story but otherwise liked the rest.
After all, you can only put so much magic into things before someone calls bullshite on you. Sad really, just how much Harry Potter magic can be applied to stories and yet needs to be crippled to keep from overpowering the other aspects of the story(though I retain the fact that people who make wizards unable to stand up to Muggle weaponry are either bias or just do realize how wrong they are. If a Bombarda spell is equal to a grenade explosion, which would have both more kinetic energy and explosive energy than a bullet, why would bullets drain a shield charm so much faster than the spell? The answer is that bashers have formed a nerf on magic and consider technology to be the better of the two, despite the fact that wizards are throwing around spells that should be moving at the same speed as lasers or plasma bolts. I am not saying wizards are all powerful, they are humans after all, but the seesaw act between the two extremes is quite tiring and admittedly boring).

After all, you can only read so many stories where harry enchants/charms a gun to do exactly what a gun is supposed to do(if more efficiently than mundane science can allow) before the originality of it wears off(like by the second story it is featured in). That they call that a magical gun is a crime, when you have the number of spells available in the HP verse and making a gun that shots predesigned spells a simpler and cleaner way to do things. After all, who wouldn't want a shotgun that fired blasting/exploding hexes that turned a target to salsa without the use of chemical explosives that leave a residual stench and distinct smell to their user?

Anyhow I seem to be ranting, I enjoyed you work and hope to see you continue it from her on out.

Just thought I would say, but Canon HP series has multiple times shown that metal is just as enchantable as wood is. From Sirius' flying motorcycle to Arthur's Ford Angelis that could fly and turn invisible before it gained sentience.
It actually wouldn't be that hard to enchant a shuttle or spaceship to fly, not to mention that there are several repair charms that could fix whatever damage is done to them. After all it is fanon fact that magic takes out Muggle technology, not Canon. It is the laws that prevent such occurrences from happening.

Besides there are several enchantments that can be put on to a moving vehicle, such as the speedster one or the squeeze through one on the Knight Bus. It would only take experience learning to fly one naturally and book learning on all the things needed for such that would need their rapt attention.
