This was such a lovely character study on Mikoto! Her lively and fierce temperament remind me of a coming of age heroine, ready to defy expectations to survive. Her story is not a happy one, but you've done her background great justice here! Her nature as a daughter of a river and emotional core are not suited to the quiet, stifling grace of the Uchiha clan. The darkness in their main home set a wonderful tone for the entire story, and I love the grief woven into every breath of this. Thanks for a wonderful read!

Dear author, this was such a wild ride. I ADORE Mikoto, and this is the most comprehensive character study I've ever read. I love all of the insight this one-shot gave us, not only into Mikoto's life/milestones/struggles, but of her family's complex dynamic. I was particularly struck by her relationship with Itachi - from his sudden birth by the Nakano, all the way through his Academy days, his integration into Shinobi life, etc. The details and level of nuance that you provide into mikoto, her husband, Itachi and even the stark contrast between Sasuke and Itachi from birth was nothing short of spectacular. I know I'll come back to this sensational fic again and again, and I know it will serve as THE frame of reference I have for canon Mikoto, and any canon-verse fic i read featuring this character in the future. This was heart breaking to read but I’m glad I found it. I used to dislike Mikoto for never having done anything in the anime to protect her sons but this fic really humanizes her.

I think you portrayed Mikoto's life beautifully, I can completely imagine this being canon.

I feel so bad for the whole clan. For itachi bc he was forced to kill every one. For saskue bc he grew up in loneliness and hatred when he could've grown up with the love of his mother. For mikoto bc she is such a sweet women and did not deserve this. For shisue bc he's freaking adorable and he had to sacrifice him self. I hate Danzo so much and the third hokage from keeping this from saskue and I just feel bad for there little family. There could've been a different way instead of killing everybody.

I really liked this. It was beautiful how you portrayed Mikoto; as a person, woman, wife and mother. Also, I have to say it's very pleasing to read a Mikoto fic where Fugaku is not a total ass, but a man comitted to his duty (which is what he was).

Also, the way Itachi grows more and more a part from Mikoto through the years was very realistic and heartbreaking.

Wonderful...I found the emphasis on nature to be fascinating, in every section there is some mention of nature and the river. Perhaps it is an allusion to Mikoto's character, her personality as a child, playing by the river with flowers in her hair?

Well, your use of description is beautiful and astounding. You put such depth into your words. Even in this, more sorrowful tale, there is some whimsy to your words - the whimsy that I have seen in some of your other stories. I am very impressed, I certainly hope that you continue writing and perhaps publish a novel someday. Or perhaps...You already have? :D
