This is utterly beautiful but tragically heartbreaking. Excellent work.

Thank you for posting this. It's beautifully heartbreaking. Hermione's friendship with Harry has definitely cost her a lot.
| Vera Rozalsky chapter 1 . 2/6/2010
This is gorgeous and heartbreaking. The hardest of all is when you're missing people from whom you've grown apart.
| FirstYear chapter 1 . 1/14/2010
The line 'She had given herself this time and had to pull it together again, forgetting the desire to fall into her mother's arms and beg her father to make the monster go away.' is my fav. In this one line you capture her desire of wanting again to be her parents child and to seek protection so easily. Very nicely done.

You bring Hermione to some achingly real place. In your hands she's so much less fictional than anywhere else I've read her. This story was absolutely heartbreaking, and juxstaposing Ron's running out with Hermione reminiscing on her parents simply put it over the top. Yet not an iota of that emotion felt gratuitous.
This was simply brilliant, Sara. And if it had been the only story to have come out of the challenge, the whole challenge would have been worth it. Brava.
| WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot chapter 1 . 1/11/2010
Gorgeous. Hermione's card to her parents really kind of made my chin quiver. That she can't send it to them just makes it that much more heartbreaking.
And the Shakespeare? An elegant touch.
| Bad Mum chapter 1 . 1/10/2010
This is beautiful. You;ve captured hermione;s relationship with her parents beautifully, and how she still wants to be their little girl and rely on them even if they don;t understand her world. And you've reflected on what Muggle parents must think of seeing their child go off into a magical world they cannot share or understand. Wonderful wonderful stuff.
| silverbirch chapter 1 . 1/9/2010
On a scale of 1 to 10 then surely deserves a 12.
Not enough people think about Hermione and her relationship with her parents and the way it was portrayed in the books it hardly existed.
Of course they loved each other, but things like life and paying the mortgage do have a habit of getting in the way. They couldn't understand her world, either, so just had to stand back and let her get on with it.
What else you captured so well was the real hermione. She was a rather lost, lonely little girl who couldn't be a little girl because people did turn to her and she had a reputation to keep up.
I loved every word of it.

Really nice look at what Hermione was going through in the last book. I like this investigation of her relationship with her parents and how she's changed and how it's changed how she relates to them. Hermione did give up a lot for Harry and the magical world, and it's nice to see that recognised here. Good fic!
