I call bs on Dumbledore with his partial magical guardian status being able to legally form marriage contracts. Same for someone from a major family. I don't know where it comes from but I don't agree in the slightest with potions not working on non magicals. No reason the polyjuice potion shouldn't work for her mom.

The magic is in the potions. It shouldn't require any magic being within the target anymore than a spell would. Unless the spell or potion is specifically intended to manipulate or use the targets own magic to help power or fuel. To empower or enhance duration.

Technically Tonks could've said she didn't know. Just that they asked Dobby what to do to treat the curse exposure and she of course told Dobby what potions to get because why wouldn't she. That they thought to ask because they didn't know what to do and she would know as an Auror and have to answer.
