Reviews for When the Winchesters Break
Fi Suki Saki chapter 1 . 1/25/2015
("for the moment"?)

This... I mostly HATE Angst...
it wasn't even secret...

But, I liked all their inside inner conflict ! These imagination, Hallucination, their fear, and all...

Wow... not to be more sadist, but that was Awesome !
NoilyPrat chapter 1 . 11/21/2014
I really like how you worked both sides, and the anguish each was suffering. Good detail with the episode, with lots of extra detail in what wasn't said (in said episode).

Need to go look up the other stories you mentioned.
sapphireswimming chapter 1 . 4/25/2013
Ugh, they're both beating themselves up so much, both suffering while they think they're doing the right thing. It was sad to see the parodies of "mother" and "father knows best" for each of them.

I Liked it ~

Kisses and see ya o/

Nana56 chapter 1 . 3/16/2010
A bad time for everybody. :( Horrible.

I think you were right on with what would have been going on in their heads, too.

On to the next one! :)
Crimson Ivy chapter 1 . 3/16/2010
Dear Hanna, I am truly impressed by this story. The way you put together the parts with Sam and Dean is just awesome!

I find the parts with Alistair really disturbing. It is easy to say: Dean was being tortured 30 years... But it is something else to IMAGINE what was done to him... You have described it in not very graphic (I am grateful for that) and strongly affecting way... And I find Alistair’s words and taunts almost as cruel as his tortures...

I love the following sentence:

Dean closed his eyes and leaned against the cold iron door. Sam was quiet, but he was still hurting. And probably felt utterly alone, even though Dean was right there, suffering with him.

It is so sweet and true...

Thank you! :)
Visionairy chapter 1 . 3/15/2010
I loved the mirroring in this story. I see a lot of that throughout the series, what happens to one is almost always reflected in a slightly different way at some point with the other. You really captured that perfectly. My favorite lines, because of everything that led up to them as well, were the final lines for each of their stories - and the most painful, "...even if it cost him what he loved the most." Sigh.

one word:

JazzyIrish chapter 1 . 3/13/2010
Wow, this was a tough one. My heart broke for both of these guys in the episode and again here. I love how you mirrored both brothers' hallucinations of hell and later, Sam's vision of his mother supporting him and Dean's vision of his father, warning him about Sam.

You really portrayed Dean's misery right along with Sam's; they both suffered the tortures of the damned during this detox. And each thought that they had to do what they were doing "even if it cost him the thing he loved the most". :(

This is a powerful visual that you've given us in this fantastic story. Couldn't get through without a tear in my eye. I'm looking forward to the next installments. Thanks for sharing this with us. Until next time...

It's true that the boys' devotion to one another alternately makes you admire and love them all the more and also want to knock their heads together for being such 'idjits'.
Scullspeare chapter 1 . 3/12/2010
"...And probably felt utterly alone, even though Dean was right there, suffering with him."

And suffer poor Dean did.

Jensen seems to have an innate ability to portray intense emotion wordlessly, and he really excelled at it in this episode. Wonderful job capturing all the tortured thoughts tumbling through Dean's head as Sam suffered through withdrawal.

Jared also managed to break my heart along with Dean's with Sam's screams in this eppy. It crumbled again reading this.

And while the tone of the piece may be dark, it also illustrates the depth of the brothers' bond and what they're fighting to get back to.

Great work.

Cheers, Sculls

Whew! Good story. Hope you get the other ones posted soon so this triology/one big story can be finished. Looking forward to the other ones.

Dean on the other side of the door...suffering right along with Sam...powerful imagery! One that I think might be burned in my brain now. That's a good thing.

This is a well shaped story, very straight...very real...very in tune to the episode itself!

I liked Dean's pov the best. How torn up he is. Knowing there is nothing he can do right now.

Always amazing to read you, K!

irismay42 chapter 1 . 3/12/2010
You know sometimes I wish that episode had been twice the length so we could have seen a few insights like these. Loved the way you mirrored the two boys' predicaments, Dean having his own "hallucinations" while Sam was locked away having his, both hating what was happening, what it was doing to their relationship, but both, ultimately, believing they're doing the right thing.

One of the best things about season 4 is that Sam's inevitable turn 'to the Darkside' was made out of good intentions, rather than simply having him go evil for the power, or because he had no choice. In many ways, Sam didn't have a choice in a lot of things that happened to him, but in that, he did. But he chose the way he did because he thought he was doing the right thing. And that's something you've reflected really well here.

Need to go find Kleenex now...
