Wow like your treatment of all of the Bones characters in this. Very good reaction to the reciting of Lance's story and how Lance now trusts them. Well done.

I could probably sleep like that for a while, and I'm older than that. 'course, I'm probably smaller than he is too, being not much bigger than 5'2"

This was the first Bones fanfic I ever read. I don't even remember how I found it or why I read it the first time, as I hadn't seen a single episode at that point! But I do remember that I very much liked it. Shortly after that, I went nuts and watched the entire series to date in about a month. I was fairly ecstatic when Sweets appeared, and I suspect this story may have caused him to be my favorite character. (Well, your story, and my soft spots for boy geniuses, lankiness, mild social awkwardness, Tragic Pasts(tm), metal music, psychology... I never had a chance, did I?)
Today, I reread this, and I wanted to tell you that it's a wonderful story.
First, your writing is so smooth-flowing and natural-sounding that the medium almost seems to disappear as the story is conveyed. That's a great talent for a writer to have!
But what I really, really, really loved was how realistically you treated the subject matter. It's not overly dramatic or excessively angsty. There's no throwing things or hugging or sobbing; Booth and Brennan don't suddenly break down and jump on the bandwagon by tearfully sharing their own Tragic Pasts(tm) in detail. The characters all act like adults with emotional self-regulation (or emotional compartmentalization in Brennan's case), and they all remain in character. Because of that, this avoids being wallowing-in-angst emotional porn (not that there isn't a place for that ;D). Instead, it's a story of trust, friendship, and being able to deal with the past and move on, even if the memories will always be painful. It's really quite understatedly beautiful in that way, and I could see this story happening.
Thank you for sharing this story with fandom. I, for one, very much appreciate it.

Wonderful. I think you captured Lance perfectly. I like the interaction between Booth and him as well, you're a very good writer and then story really emphasizes that I think.

(SOBS) I love Sweets.
Truthfully, the first ever episode of Bones I watched was last night, and it was the 100th one. (Mayhem on a cross? or something like that)and I fell in love!

Eep! It made me so happy inside to see Booth and Brennan doting on Sweets! :]

I like this story of yours. You have kept the characters true to how they would likely act and react to this situation. I enjoyed the friend/family relationship.
| Amilyn chapter 5 . 6/2/2010
This is really beautifully done and I like how you've done the tension, the awkwardness and straightforwardness, the difference in how Booth and Brennan take care of people, little Lance's responses and developmental stages (the intellectual advancement vs. the lack of dexterity) and the refusal to speak. I LOVE how you've drawn his parents and how you've depicted adoption and the time involved and how it takes a while to settle in. Very nicely done all around.
