Alpha had enough ordnance to deflect an asteroid (End of Eternity,) potentially push away an entire planet (Collision Course,) or do exactly what's proposed in this fic (change the moon's flightpath; Seance Spectre.)

Even allowing that this transpires after all those, they were running out of options in the future; this might well have been their last chance before being doomed by the next encounter requiring a course change.

The story could have used more character interaction or action...one or the other. But, that is just my personal preference,
