If there's no ambush, there is no reason whatsoever that soldier should have been left there. There are ways to disarm landmines in real life, even more so in Star Wars. Only an idiot would have considered total withdraw even an option. Once the the mine was activated, the EOD team should have been sent in to diffuse the bomb. Hard, yes, but I've never seen a Jedi willingly let a soldier die.
Good story, beautifully written, just with a slight lack of realism since EOD teams should have been sent in to at least clear the minefield if not save the soldier.

perhaps he becomes more jaded the older he gets but this is an excellent little story.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. I love the way you started with "War is a bounty hunter's closest ally" then went on to explain that it wasn't because of the obvious reasons, but a reason that few would think of. I loved it.
