Such is the same thoughts in many fan's minds.
I agree the ending was sad, but also appropriate (nearly burst into tears when the ending song began to play though). Spike finally managed to take care of old business, at least.

It was a sad day for ed. i imgine she truely did cry that day. i know i did.

Oh goodness...a wonderful oneshot - I could really sense that Ed did miss Spike, and that he indeed make an impact on her.

I thought Ed's departure from the Bebop was one of the most characteristically bittersweet moments of the series...such a sad but also beautiful moment. And, really, she and Ein *had* to leave at that point, because they just wouldn't have fit into the mood of "The Real Folk Blues".
But for some reason, I'd never thought about what her reaction to Spike's death might have been. Thinking about it now, I think the most likely possibilities would have been either a sort of baffling, blithe acceptance, or...this.
