I loved this story. I am really excited to read a new one from you every week!
| skag trendy chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
This was a thoroughly enjoyable early season 1 adventure. The contentious issue of 'who's in charge' is one that most younger siblings can relate to (myself included whilst growing up). But I have to say that Sam was actually making a valid point in this case, even if he was a little 'bull in a china shop' about it - I mean, it's Dean! You have to choose your words carefully round him, make it sound like it's his idea.
Dean was just being hard-headed instead of taking his suggestions seriously, rustling those feather of authority to make his own point. All he succeeded in doing was pi*ssing Sam off.
But that line...
"I thought you wanted a partner, not an employee."
That just about killed me. It stated everything that needed to be said in just a few simple words. Brilliant.
It often amuses me. The brothers know each other so well, so they should know how to handle and talk to each other, yet they end up at logger heads because they say the wrong thing, or go about it the wrong way. And men accuse us women of being over-sensitive! Talk about fragile egos! LOL!
Cheers for the wonderful fic, hon.

I enjoyed reading this story when it was published in "Blood Brothers 3" last year.
Thanks for sharing your story with us here.

Yay, Thursday fics to tide us over! I can use all the tiding over I can get. :) And you're right, I'm quite happy to read pre-apocalyptic stuff right now. I'm really looking forward to season 6. I prefer the more human-scale story arcs of the early seasons, but the more humourous one-shots of the later ones. So I'm hoping season 6 will be the best of both worlds.
As for this story, I particularly enjoyed the cadence and rhythm of the argument at the beginning-I could just hear the back-and-forth in my head-as well as the description of Sam's drug-addled fear towards the end-it felt very real.

Boy am I glad to see something like this come out! Whew! Good old regular deliciousness! :D Each season has had its own goodness, but I still love S1 for pure brother stuff.
They hadn't figured out at this point to NOT split up, or knew they shouldn't, but did it anyway. *sigh* That never works out for our boys.
Very clever to bring in some human villains and then make the supernatural thing something neither of them had thought of. Their silly argument about what it was was just that...silly! But, we all do that.
Loved that last little bit with Sam becoming really coherent and Dean settling and satisfied his little brother would be okay. Sam closed his eyes so they could pretend. Hehehe
So glad you have a supply of fic for the summer! Gonna need it. :)

Awesome story hon! I miss the boys just being boys, so reading this was nice! It's interesting reading a season 1 fic and seeing how much our boys have changed over the last 4-5 years and how far they've gone from saving people hunting things (the family business), to saving the world and hunting horsemen and the occasional lapse back into the family business.
| Tyranusfan chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
I remember this one from the book. I really liked it! You capture some of the old S1 feeling very well, and weaved in some interesting non-supernatural villains. Good job!

I liked that both brothers were right and wrong about the hunt. You don't know how happy you made me about your fics for the summer. It's the only way I survive the SPN breaks, that and rewatching my season 1-5 DVD's ]
| Harrigan chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
I'm so glad we have you to look forward to this summer!
It's fascinating how even fic written more than a year ago still work so well. They have *always* had their struggles as brothers - not just the last season or two. And that's what we love about them. (It wouldn't be any fun if there was no conflict between them.) But they always come around to *wanting* to understand and to be understood, and you capture that so well, with a gruesome casefic to wallow in, too!

This story's great. It's very Sam and Dean. The ghost's story was sad. I'm glad Sam managed to figure out what she wanted so she could find peace.
| KKBELVIS chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
I think I might have swallowed it whole. Brup!
Very satisfying, indeed!
Super hunt story. Well blended. You add just the right measurements of hurt/comfort...brotherly protection, action and caring...just yummy!
Thank you for the wonderfully fun time,
| Acidia-Leah chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
Wow. I wish I had more time to review, but I agree with everything the other reviewers have said. This is bang on. Like pretty much everyone, I'm looking forward to season six bringing back the real brothers and the real show as we know it. In the meantime, reading your stories will be wonderful. Well done.
| SoloVoce chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
Wonderful fic. I'm so glad that you intend to post fics weekly. It's nice to know there will be some good fan fiction to enjoy this summer. I think we're all in need of it. I applaud your decision to leave season five behind, both the good and the bad (and there was definitely both) and give us the real Sam and Dean again.
You always treat the boys as they should be treated (unlike some showriters, ahem) and your writing is always something to be enjoyed.
I like the little bits and details, as well as the bigger stuff. It's all there.
Sam's drug-and-blood-loss-induced state of mind was very well written. Loved it. And, of course, they were both wrong. :) I think they learned a lesson there. I could go on a lot more, but anyway, terrific fic. Thanks for writing these characters so well.
"Not partnership, but brotherhood." I like that. The "partnership" label doesn't come close to describing them accurately. It's brotherhood, which has some elements of partnership, but also a whole lot more. :)

Awesome story. I'm so glad to know I still have something to look forward to on Thursdays. Thanks for keeping entertained and Winchester fed.
| Landwing chapter 1 . 5/20/2010
Overwhelmed is a good word. There was so much in the last couple episodes that it'll take some time for everything to sink in. The story isn't done, that much is clear, even though it looked like it tried to be...sort of. Anyway, as you said, it'll be another long summer. We'll have to wait and see. But thanks for the prospect of stories to look forward to. And a special thanks to all the editors and compilers that are releasing your stories for our benefit.
This story kind of highlighted all of the Winchester rules: know what you're facing, don't go into a hunt with unresolved issues, stay alert, don't take anything for granted, and stay together. And in typical Sam and Dean fashion, they prove the rules by breaking them. Then there's the unspoken rule between Sam and Dean that they keep remembering and rediscovering: before everything else, we are brothers. And there's a lot to be said for that rule. It encompasses and often strengthens and sometimes even trumps the other rules. And it's heartening to read and good to see. Well done yet again.
