| Griffalope chapter 1 . 4/5 I actually did the Appalachian trail a couple years ago, so its a bit trippy to be reading a fanfic about it. The difference in the actual experience of hiking it and reading about it is a bit trippy. I saw a few romances bloom out on trail (it's called pink blazing in the AT community) but personally, I never saw the appeal. For the vast majority of the time, you are covered in sweat, dirt, sometimes blood if you're clumsy like me. You only have one set of clothes, and maintain only the most basic of hygiene. There were times where we didn't get a shower for a week or more. Sometimes, the Hikertrash stank was so bad, we were kicked out of restaurants when we finally made it to town. Not the ideal conditions for falling in love or getting intimate, but it did happen. If a relationship can survive six months on the AT, though, it can survive anything. |
