Hooray! I loved this story. I'm happy Carlisle realized the enormity of his stupidity and selfishness- he'll never have the relationship he could have had with his family, but at least he's managed to salvage something. And what you wrote about the children loving him reminded me of my girls' relationship with my husband's mother- because of things she allowed to happen, and even facilitated, when my husband was small, our relationship with her is not as good as it could be. For a long time we wanted nothing to do with her, and even now the abuse she let happen to him and his brother when they were tiny and defenseless is always a shadow in the room. But after a great deal of discussion, we allowed her to be in our children's lives and they love her, and she loves them. I'm sorry that she chose to damage her life by making such stupid decisions, but I've never been sorry that my husband chose to forgive her and let her build a relationship with our girls.

Knew there would be some kind of angst after Edward returned to Seattle, but I wasn't expecting that.

Wow this was quite a story full of every emotion! I enjoyed the bonds that formed between Edward, Bella, Emmett, Rose, Jasper and Alice as they hiked and how they strengthened over the 6 months on the trail and after when they got back to their real lives...and Uncle Garrett I just loved him and his shameless flirting had me smiling every time. Carlisle..i usually love him but in this one he was a real bastard which saddened me as I know from your A/Ns it did you...but I guess every story needs a bad guy and unfortunately he got the short straw...thank you for sharing this wonderful story...HT
