Good chapter. Great descriptions about the confusion. At least Maddie got lucky with the inn keepers. They could have been the dodgy sort instead of the sympathetic sort.

Took me forever to get through this chapter, I really didn't want it to end so I found little things to do every paragraph or so and then ran back to the story as excitable as ever. (Went from reasonable to rabid fangirl in about 5 seconds of reading, btw)

I'm STILL trying to find out exactly where Maddie is and 2:30am isn't the best time to be pondering (though as luck would have it, I have a map of Arda next to my bed- this is going to keep me up all night now).

This is a really good taken on an old and tried out fandom, I really love the way Maddie is having a meltdown from the shock of being completely torn from everything she knows and understands, its very realistic. Far too many fics dump the main character within 5 minutes stroll of someone (normally someone hansome)from LOTR and theres no language barrier or real confusion over it and next minute they're fighting on a battle field as if they were raised to do it all their lives :-/

Though with her pondering over the language, I'd just like to point out that Gaeilge doesnt really sound anything like English, though I understand she is simply guessing.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to read a story like the one you've started; realistic and well-written. I feel like I can actually relate to this character, and I can't wait for you to develop her further. WIth all the trashy, predictable dredge that circulates this community it's great to be able to read something enjoyable. Keep it up!

Oh wow, congrats on taking on the task of making a believable modern-age heroine! It is so hard to find a LotR story going along these lines and yet doesn't have you closing the window in sheer disgust at the character portrayal.

I understand the importance of the disassociation that comes with the first-person perspective: no one refers to themselves by name in their own head after all. I would however like to see someone else's perspective in the up and coming chapters, if only for a name and general appearance for visualisation.

Overall, a brilliant beginning. You've really made me think about where your protagonist could have popped up- wide plains with few trees and a river near a settlement... I'll likely have to read it over to narrow it down as she is travelling on foot and not very quickly. *Whips out map and begins looking*

I really enjoy realistic girl in middle earth stories and they are so rare. Shall I tell you what else is rare? Glorfindel/OC or even Erestor/OC stories. I admit i'm a sucker for good romance.
