![]() ![]() ![]() Damn. That mirror ending. Just - perfect. Yes. Amazing. I hate leaving one liner upvote reviews like this, they're WAY too common on this platform, but...I have no words. This was wonderful. So happy I finally caved and read this. Damn. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Time and time again, as I looked for good Harry/Hermione fics that I hadn't read yet, I saw post after post after post saying "if you haven't read Time is the Fire, do it NOW. Time is the Fire is amazing and worth every word," and other such sentiments. And time and time again, I've looked at the summary, shook my head, and moved on because I just wasn't interested in post-series continuation or "epilogue-compliant" H/Hr stories. I regret that. Your grammar and sentence structure is a breath of fresh air in the fanfiction space, and your prose is splendid. In the past segments I can FEEL the narrator's longing and desperation, and in the future segments I find myself commiserating with Hermione's worry and cheering her determination. I even find myself enjoying the mystery aspect as well, which is unusual for me. In my experience a lot of fanfics tend to overly obscure the details of plots they want to be mysterious, leading characters to flounder in ignorance and misinformation, causing the narration to feel muffled and oppressive. But that is NOT the case here. As of this chapter, I feel I have enough information to accurately guess what is going on, and find myself drawn in, hanging on the edge of my seat, wondering "am I right? If so, why did this happen? What was the motivation? How did start? How do the pieces truly fit together? Or am I wrong? Have I taken two and two and come up with five? What red herring did I chase?" I'm eagerly awaiting the point where the narrative shifts to past!Harry and Hermione, as that kind of direct character driven/following/whatever type of, well, narrative is much more my style., but even if it doesn't I expect to thoroughly enjoy this. I really wish I'd - screw it. It's really, really good. What more do you want from me, man?! (Thank you for the wonderful story!) |
![]() ![]() Loved the fic, especially the little touch at the end with the mirror, so perfect and heartwarming. Also sad that Ron in the second universe was right about not seeing either of his friends again. On a side note, if you sacrifice yourself for yourself, is it still self-sacrificing? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Loved this. Well done. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Okay, can I just say one thing: I normally avoid Harry Potter AUs like the plague, especially those of the time-traveling plotlines, and yet somehow, dearest of dearest authors, you managed to not only rope me in from the first chapter, but also keep me on my toes until I kept reading and reading, desperate to know where you were going with this story... In other words, by all the GODS, THIS WAS AMAZING! I must have talked my poor fiance's ear off with every single chapter, explaining what was happening thus far, and wondering how it was going to be solved. He is a huge Harry Potter fan like me, and even a Harmony shipper (we see ourselves as Harmony, if they were canon), and I simply HAD to let him what was happening! He was mercifully patient about it, though he doesn't read fics lol XD (Also, on a side note, while Ch. 18 left me temporarily confused - how come Hermione didn't survive the first time when Harry "died" to save her both times?, was mainly the question - the moment I read Hermione's explanation, I literally yelled out "OHHHHH, THAT'S WHY!" and immediately ran to tell my fiance all about it lol XD) I must confess that I went into this a bit apprehensively. As mentioned above, I'm not a fan of most HP AUs. HP post-canon divergence, yes, where Harmony become canon after the Battle of Hogwarts, or even the occasional "canon pairings that eventually grow into fanon pairings," but again: I typically go with post-canon, with no major messing around with the events of canon prior to the epilogue. Or sometimes, I'll read (and write) fluffy ficlets where they DO get together during canon, but again, usually without messing up other major events of the books. I suppose it's mainly bad luck as well as personal taste that I have a general distaste of HP AUs; many of these "time traveling AUs" have a horrible tendency to utterly DESTROY certain characters, and in the case of Harmony fics, sadly, that usually falls into Weasley bashing territory, ughhhh -.-" But upon a glance at the reviews before giving this story a try, my hopes were raised when I saw someone thanking you for not destroying Ron's character, so I dove in, curious at the very least. And I 10000% agree with them: you did a MARVELOUS job writing Ron (and Ginny's!) character, bringing up his flaws, but also focusing on his strengths. I absolutely loved that though the Horcrux fed into his jealousy, once he returned and destroyed the thing, he completely accepted Harmony's relationship, recognizing that his chances flew out the window when he left. And yet, despite his personal feelings, he stayed by their sides, and I'm eternally grateful you did that. Poor Ron is horribly abused by the fandom, especially by Harmony shippers, so it's extra hard for Weasley-loving-Harmony-shippers like me to find fics featuring any of our beloved gingers with respect. Hell, when Ginny in the alternative timeline sent Hermione back, saying that losing her life with Harry was better than the hell she was trapped in, now knowing it was all a lie, that... broke my heart. And pleased me to no end that a fanfic author actually showed her tender side! Bless you! Weasley Respect aside, you handled the usage of time travel very cleverly here. I was a bit bewildered at first with where you were going with it, especially when Future Hermione and "Past" Harry had sex (never had I felt so torn about my OTP banging, but then I remembered that The Time Traveler's Wife did something similar, and rolled with it lol XD), but the more I read, the more I not only respected but fell in love with your work. You have a gift with words, a beautiful style of prose, and a clear, deep love for the books. And though I confess that the first smut scene gave me mixed feelings, I could still see the eroticism and bittersweet tone of that scene, and how carefully it was handled with Hermione's disappearance and Time Traveling Harry realizing what he must do... Plus, the next smut scene was quite nice, as well as the many "snogging" sessions ;) I loved the breaks between Time Traveling Hermione and Present Day Hermione in the first half of the story, the different use of tone, while still showing deep emotions with every turn and twist. This was a damn good fic in terms of writing, presentation, characterization, and more. As a hardcore Harmony shipper myself, I'm so grateful to find a fic like this. The AU thing aside, I also generally (the key word is "generally") do not go looking for Plot-Oriented fics, preferring to stick with short fluff (and sometimes angst) or shameless smut. It's always so amazing to find That Special Fic for a fandom that defies that habit of mine. Your fic is not only very Plot focused, but also is an AU, AND features time traveling, no less! All three things I tend to avoid or am ultra picky about, and somehow, you nailed all three and won me over big time! Thank you for treating the characters with respect, not just the Weasleys, but Harry and Hermione as well. Thank you for creating such an interesting and engaging story that I read in less than 24 hours (a feat EXTREMELY rare for me when a fic is more than 50k words), thank you for making the time traveling plot thread together beautifully and not confuse me, thank you for giving Harmony the happy ending they deserved, thank you for being true to canon about the power of love and about the Golden Trio's deep bond. I'm so glad I gave this fic a try and didn't immediately dismiss it because of it's use of Time Traveling. Something about the summary drew me to bookmark it, glance it at every so often and wonder if I should start reading it, but it was ultimately the review commenting on Ron's character that won me over and I went ahead and gave it a try. That was last night, and barely halfway through, I just knew you would receive a giant review from me because OH MY GODS, THIS IS SO GOOD AHHHHHHH IFDHDGBIUWEKGVBKJRNGJRENBVFDNBGKJENRGKJRE But seriously. Well fucking done! Bravo, bravo, bravissimo! *standing ovation* |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh genius genius genius! Great chapter! Love love loved it! |
![]() ![]() ![]() this story is amazing I am surprised and happy with all events it's absolutely perfect |
![]() ![]() Eh, I don't get the actual point of a "time travel" fic when the writer chooses to not save Sirius, Remus, etc. Like, really, what's the point in choosing to murder great characters when the perfect way to saving them is RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU? Weird. |
