Your style however, is sometimes a little weird, making it hard to read your sentences (and you definitely have way to many ellipses). Maybe it's what you're aiming for and if so, just continue, and never mind me. Someone else already mentioned it but maybe you could get a beta?

I realize this story is quite old at this point, but I'm wondering if you would let someone beta it for you? The someone being me. There are odd word choices that you use in a way that is the exact opposite of the meaning of the word, for example, recanted. It means that one no longer holds an opinion or belief, especially one considered heretical. That is not the way you are attempting to use the word. The story is good, it just needs a little help that I would love to give. :)
