|Reviews for Jayne and Jane|
| Iverik chapter 1 . 4/13/2013
Captured Jane. Well done.
| chocolatebearturk chapter 1 . 12/3/2010
I forgot this was your story. Really. The style feels so radically different from anything else I've read from you that I was surprised to see your trademark "reviews love" at the bottom of the page.
I've never read Emma, but I love Jayne's rendition of it. I was surprised at how well you got into his head-the thing about the woman with "breasts like mountains" almost made me slide out of bed. My mouth was hanging open. A small voice in my head went, "Oh, and that came out of JD's head." At which point all the other voices turned around and said in the voice of that one stylist from What Not to Wear who does Dr. Scholl's commercials now, "Shut UP! You're kidding me!"
This is really amazing. I mean... really, REALLY amazing. I'm so, so impressed by this. I loved Jayne's unwilling interest and I loved that you used Inara of all people to counterpoint it. One of the most intelligent, cultural passengers versus JAYNE. It felt like opposite ends meeting. Pure brilliance.
:) I love you for this and I'm also favoriting this story.

ROFL! Hilarious. Good ol' 'Nara XD
Took me a while to realise the book was Emma though -ashamed-
Does their reactions reflect your opinion of the book? I actually liked it, though all my friends appropriately hate her :D
The way I see it, I can be a real arse too, so why shouldn't I let Emma be? Besides, it all works out in the end :)
Curious about how Jayne's foot was set on fire though...

I love this. Jayne has always been one of my favorite characters. You've got his voice nailed down perfectly.

It took a while, but here I am. Back to give this the proper review it deserves.
Jayne and his concern for Captain: I really appreciated that you allowed Jayne to worry about Mal, but in a way that was still true to character. Because that is the essence of Jayne. He has a heart beneath the gruff, crass exteriour.
Interesting to hear of his fondness for Pulp fiction (or at least that's what I envisioned from the image he describes; those old forty's trashy covers with women and mosters &such lol). Eros-what an appropriate name (it's the Greek word for passionate love, right?) for the planet that supplies his smut.
His concern over being caught reading and what it'll do to his rep is pretty amusing. He's right; it would change what his crewmates thought of him.
"Aside from having a man's name she seems a right fine girl..." Still my favorite line. Too hilarious ;)
"...the man Emma ends up marrying is good enough that I wanted him to be with her, if only because he wanted to be." I don't dislike EMma as much as Inara and Jayne (I love their interraction, btw). Having been a huge clueless fan, back in the day. But I totally get what she's saying. Sometimes I do the same thing. I want a character to end up with who they want, not because I like that love interest-so much as because I want the other to 'win.' To get the prize of ending up with who he/she chooses. ( I can't think of a specific example, but I know it's happened more than once)
Did you see the 2007 version of Persuasion? Wait, aren't you the one who told me to watch it (LOL)? Yes, I think you were. I loved it! Rupert Penry-Jones as Wentworth melts my heart (&I'm not even a romantic!)
Fabulous FIrefly fic, Heather.

This whole story was made of win! Loved it!
| MissGuenever chapter 1 . 6/23/2010
I loved this! I can so see Jayne and Inara having a "secret" conversation on this.
| Rock Scorpion chapter 1 . 6/23/2010
This is a very nicely written piece. The bit about Kaylee not saying anything... yet! is well constructed. I don't get the continuing fascination with the work of Austen, never have done, but that's just me. What might be nice, as a continuation, is to explore what exposure to such literature might do to change Jayne's worldview.
| RionaEire chapter 1 . 6/22/2010
That was ruttin hy-larious! The funniest Jayne story I've seen in ... a long time, maybe ever? The title told me it would be funny. Your voice captures the sarcastic sentiments of our big merc well, maybe with a little more wit than he has but the narration voice was perfect for a story about him. It was so funny how he likes to read dirty novels, has them shipped to him in amunition boxes, that is hilarious! I've seen Kaylee reading similar fair in other stories so she should be able to relate to him :) But yes Emma is heavier than most of those things, I'd be interested to know why Jayne's lady friend with whom he has relations wanted to read that particular Austin selection. The "shock, horror" line was clever, and your turns of phrase were well thought out and effective for the story. And what Inara said at the end, that was funny too, I guess she'll keep his secret. Oh, and it was humorous to see Jayne's opinions as he read the book, the things that bothered him, particularly how a woman with such a fine manly name could behave so poorly. :)

This will be getting two review from me. 1. Because it's awesome and deserves that. And 2. Because I just walked in the door, checked my email and saw you posted this, And needed to tell you right away how cool it is. But unfortunately have to leave yet again as soon as I pick up a dress for the dry cleaners.
So yeah. I'll be back. And will at least try to leave a more coherent review later ;)
