This was such a lovely story to read. A Vulcan couple is not something I thought I needed, but here I am, several hours later, not able to put down this book. The story was well-written and put together. The characters were also so endearing! Thank you for writing this and all your other fics.

Greetings! Newbie here...

My first Star Trek: TNG fanfic... and my very first review ever on this forum.

Though I am 11.5 years late to the party, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this gem of a story.

Your original characters (Kaira and Sarkaal) felt just as real as the canon characters on the ship. An interesting experience for me, since I tend to gravitate towards fics with familiar characters in the foreground and OC characters as minor add-ons to move a story along. But, with "Empathy", I was emotionally invested in your original characters and caring about what happens to them as the story unfolds.

I also love how seamlessly you weave our beloved canon characters throughout the story, while maintaining the integrity of their personalities. It was very easy for me to imagine Sarkaal and Kaira as two of the many Starfleet Officers on the ship the audience never actually got to view on screen, but were dutifully working and living on the USS Enterprise. Reminds me of the season 7 episode, "Lower Decks", when four previously unknown officers are featured as the main interest for that episode, while the regular cast took a more supporting role.

Well, this review has become longer than I had planned, so I'll end by saying that Kaira's Beleine heritage (for me) was one of the most interesting twists in the story. I couldn't remember an offshoot culture by that name that had once called Vulcan home, so I turned to researching only to discover that it was an original alien race of your own making.

Brava!

It was interesting to wonder how similar, yet so very different, Romulans, Vulcans and Kaira's people of Beleine are from one another. Though you ended this story beautifully, when I had finished reading, I was left wanting more.

I am curious to see how Kaira adapts to living and raising a family on Vulcan. I imagine members of her family leaving their oppressive homeworld on Beleine to start new lives on Vulcan. How will the quiet spark of a revolution that you hinted at on Beleine, influenced by the teachings of Surak, play out and change Beleine as time passes?

Just some musings I have... which means you've done wonderful work creating well-formed original characters, with believable backgrounds and interesting plots. Enough so, that I am still thinking about them and the world you built around them.

Thankfully, I found three others from your works ("Deal or No Deal" / "Disgrace and Honor" / "Complicated Convenience") all featuring original characters... and I am so pleased.

Many thanks for sharing your stories with us!

I will be sure to review them as well!

Fantastic writing and characterisation. I particularly like the cultural aspects. I have to say this is one of the best fics in the fandom and it truly was a pleasure to read.
Flussungeheuer chapter 17 . 4/1/2013
That's one of the most terrific stories I've ever read here on fanfiction_net. I read it last night in one go and couldn't put it down.

I adore the way you slowly built their friendship and then they suddenly realized they were in love with each other. I wondered if they were even going to pair up, but all the Beleine stuff and Kaira's problems were so interesting it would have been worth reading even without the romance. Then the romance and the baby and their relationship issues gave it a whole new thrilling level.

I loved both their characters and the way they interacted with each other and the other crew members was very believeable and well done. I also really adore the depth of their backrounds you have put into this. This story is truly unique.

I'd love to see a sequel on how they raise their daughter!
