| P.A.W.07 chapter 9 . 5/24/2012
I heard this was a great fic. Glad i started reading it. Poor Zuko and his misadventures. XD
| vifetoile89 chapter 20 . 5/6/2012
This story just continues to top itself, chapter by chapter. Is it bad that I imagined Captain Sun to look much like the (black) female pirate from the Aardman Animations' film "Pirates! Band of Misfits"?
I really dig the origin of the Blue Spirit given here. You really put Zuko through the physical wringer, which I appreciate - he's so foolhardy that he must suffer some aches and bruises as the result of his actions, and it goes well with his toughness and sheer grit in the rest of the series. It reminds me of 'The Hunger Games' in attention to physical weariness and pain.
Also, my first reaction on finding out what Zuko's tattoo looked like was "Classy." Going from Western heraldry, swords of all type connote military honor, and the anchor (one of my favorite symbols) means hope. Not that I expect Zuko would *admit* to getting a tattoo to remind him of "hope" *tearbending*, but it is a funny idea...
| FairladyZ2005 chapter 20 . 4/30/2012
This is a very fun first outing for Zuko as a very blue,Blue Spirit. I especially liked the lengths Zuko was going through to keep everything so secret only to have Iroh see the state he is in when he comes back. I particularly like the line about the pain not starting to fade "until after a midnight cup of tea." Very sweet. And the tattoo is finally revealed. Very appropriate design. The only thing that seemed off to me about this chapter was Zuko finding the opera mask by pure accident. I would have preferred that be a deliberate choice of disguise on Zuko's part. I hope there is some more explaination on the mask in part two. Sun is a fun character, I look forward to learning what Zuko found on her.
| AnnaAza chapter 20 . 4/29/2012
Wow. Zuko sure had an adventure as the...BLUE Spirit, huh? I have a bad feeling that Captain Sun will find this out. Will Zuko beat the unbeatable? Why is he getting into so much trouble with pirates? Will he get caught? I wonder how good Sun is she has beaten eleven experienced officers. That was a rather awesome adventure, and I'm glad you're back!
| Shade40 chapter 20 . 4/28/2012
Wow, those pictures by Sarapsys ARE gorgeous. It must be very flattering to receive such fanart. I don't have a deviantart account, but your work is stunning, Sarapsys, even without being connected to a good story.
Geez, Zuko's a little harsh on the Earth Kingdom navy, huh? You know, in one of the beginning episodes, when Zuko tells Zhao that their ship was damaged by Earth Kingdom navy, I thought the lie was outrageous because I didn't realize the Earth Kingdom HAD a navy! So I had to look it up and find that, yes, they have a navy and it is far less impressive than the Fire Nation navy.
Hmm, Captain Sun has a good point. Zuko's mission is important to him, but the Fire Nation at large only benefits if he actually finds the Avatar. Until then, his mission is just sucking up provisions that could instead go to the war effort. Since no one believes that the Avatar is alive, there could be some resentment that he is being selfish in depriving the Fire Nation of resources for his own personal quest.
Aww, I like that Iroh calls Sun a bloodthirsty savage. We see so many of the Fire Nation elites refer to others with derogatory terms like savages and peasants, but Iroh reflects the same view as Jeong Jeong that it is the desire and propensity for violence that makes a person savage - not their nation or bending.
I really love the way you are developing the Blue Spirit's creation with this story. Since the Blue Spirit is already wanted by the Fire Nation early in the series, rescuing Aang couldn't possibly be the first time Zuko donned that persona. Creating a plot to explain Zuko's decision to become the Blue Spirit (which was not traitorous, but could be misconstrued that way) is especially nice to see because it was kind of a loose end in the series. Iroh's seeing the dye and his comments suggest that he knows what Zuko is planning quite clearly, and yet Zuko is still surprised that Iroh knows his identity when he rescues Appa from Lake Laogi. Zuko really doesn't give Iroh enough credit at being able to guess the Blue Spirit's identity later.

Great work! It was such a treat to see this updated today! I really love your writing style, and you always come up with the best ideas for the story! I'm really excited to read more, as always.
| Kimberly T chapter 20 . 4/27/2012
So we finally find out what Zuko's new tattoo looks like! Though I'd have thought it would be on his upper thigh, or below the waistline on his back; not somewhere on skin that was exposed to the viewing audience at various times during the series.
And we get his very first, trouble-ridden foray as the Blue Spirit! And a new opponent for him to deal with, a female counterpart to Zhao it would seem, who has a predilection for Agni Kai duels. During the series, when Zuko challenged Zhao to an Agni Kai, Iroh said "Prince Zuko, have you forgotten what happened last time you dueled a master?" After "The Storm", most fans thought Iroh had been referring to when Zuko faced his father, and got burned and banished. But the more i think about it, the more I think Iroh would have phrased it differently if he'd been referring to that fateful day...
| Lunatique chapter 20 . 4/27/2012
Woo-hoo, new chapter! Quite an action-packed one, too. I love Captain Sun as a villain; she seems ruthless enough to cause quite a lot of trouble.
I like the writing here, such as Iroh's disapproval being as acute as the tattooist's needle or Zuko's nervous mannerisms like worrying the wood of the table with a fingernail.
The action was clearly written and moved quickly, and felt quite vivid, for instance Zuko's mind being one long stream of incoherent fear.
The characters came through clearly, such as Zuko's determination and single-mindedness, and the way Iroh gave him space to make his own mistakes despite understandable fears. Also we get a glimpse of the tattoo! Overall, a great genesis story for the Blue Spirit.

Wonderful new chapter! Especially love it for the birth of the Blue Spirit, who is appropriately named, I see. I am picturing Zuko's skin stained blue for days. Also, I like the tattoo you chose for him. The details are astounding throughout this story. I can see how Zuko would have to plow his way through a string of difficult, dangerous adversaries during his banishment, including his own countrymen. Can't wait for part 2!
| DarkDragonne chapter 20 . 4/27/2012
Awesome chapter! And the Blue Spirit is finally here! (although I winder what WAS the mask doing in an armory)
This Sun figure strikes me as the type who can't bear to have anyone around who poses her a threat to her status. She'll probably put two an two together though. I wonder how the resulting confrontation will end.
Keep up the great story!

This is an awesome fic. The crew are great fun and you've got Zuko growing both physically and as a person. Very much enjoying it, and hope you update soon. Loved the kittens. And Ty Lee.

Ah, I've been delaying reading this chapter because I want to stretch out and savor the sensation - I'm not sure if I've reviewed before, but if not, I should, because your story is fantastic. I love your characterizations of Iroh & Zuko, I love the itinerary you give them for this trip, and I LOVE the worldbuilding you've put into it. I just think back on this fic and I remember the amount of political significance and character depth you managed to invest in *coffee.*
Oh, please update soon! This particular chapter merits kudos for how it expands the roles and personalities of everyone on the ship - and how adorably in character is it of Iroh to compliment Yuu on every meal? I'm sure it's not too far now from the end, aka the beginning of the series - please carry it out to the conclusion. :)

I couldn't agree more... tea is much better than coffee... and I'd know... I grew up on Starbucks-strength coffee and tea is all I drink now other than water :)
Great story by the way I can't wait to read the rest of it
