| webmeister chapter 3 . 1/31/2014
Good story. I think you captured the characters well. Their banter in the hospital is great. I also liked how clean your writing is. Even though it is season 3 now, I still am drawn into your version of the story.

Great read.. about to head to the sequel. Surely you know that the pair from House are based off the original Holmes characters? Really the whole show is..

Wonderful story, best "Sherlock" fanfic I've found to date.
It's not just you. House is certainly based on Holmes: Holmes, almost sounds like Home, synonym of House. Watson - Wilson. And A.C. Doyle's character was originally inspired by a Dr. Joseph Bell who emphasized the importance of close observation in making a diagnosis. To illustrate this, he would often pick a stranger and, by observing him, deduce his occupation and recent activities. In Doyle's stories Bell becomes a detective, in House he goes back to being a doctor who diagnosis through close observation.

Loved your fic! House is actually based off Sherlock Holmes, you should do a crossover!
| Skyfullofstars chapter 3 . 4/2/2012
".. John knows what Sherlock is dreaming about, and a fresh wave of hatred for Moriarty sweeps over him because this. Is. Wrong.
It's wrong because Sherlock was the one closest to the pool, he should have had a better chance – because right now it feels like Moriarty has won, whether or not he survived, because Sherlock just shouldn't look like this.
He shouldn't be so frighteningly pale, he shouldn't have to have machines to tell them whether his heart is still beating normally, he shouldn't be covered in so many bandages, the chart shouldn't read gunshot wound, abdomen, major blood loss, it shouldn't say broken ribs, it shouldn't, it just shouldn't!.."
I DO NOT HAVE A VERY GOOD FEELING ABOUT THIS AT ALL...
AND I LOVE JOHN'S THOUGHTS HERE...THAT IT'S SO WRONG..YOU'VE CHOSEN JUST THE RIGHT WORDS - AGAIN - GAWW
"..But he could have fought harder, he could have refused to go into the pool in the first place – and be killed. Anyway, Moriarty would have found someone else. He could have pulled Sherlock away, insisted on leaving before Moriarty came back, instead of just collapsing to the floor...but how was he supposed to know that Moriarty was coming back? He –
'Shut up,' mumbled Sherlock grumpily..."
DESPITE THE OBVIOUS PAIN THEY ARE BOTH FEELING, THAT LINE MADE ME SMILE. SHERLOCK TELLING JOHN TO SHUT UP...HIS THOUGHTS ARE HURTING HIS HEAD!
"..'Run a check of all the local pharmacies – break ins, thefts, anything. He'll have done it quietly – he won't want to draw attention to himself if he's weakened. Anything that looks professional. He may have taken small amounts from a number of places to avoid suspicion – not personally, of course, he'll have someone else do his dirty work.'
'Or,' begins John slowly, not wishing to make himself look a fool by challenging Sherlock, 'he might have made it look like something...you know, kids or something. Or junkies. To throw us off.' Sherlock looks surprised, but pleasantly so; John feels a flicker of pride. Has he just impressed the mighty Sherlock Holmes?.."
AND GOOD DEDUCTIONS, BOTH OF THEM. IT WOULDN'T HAVE OCCURRED TO ME, JUST YET, THAT OF COURSE JIM CAN'T JUST WALK INTO A HOSPITAL OR CLINIC AND ASK FOR HELP.
"...'You aren't him, you know,' he says quietly. Sherlock raises an eyebrow, 'Moriarty. You aren't him.' John clarifies, 'you're bored; he's bored. You catch murderers; he creates them.' With that, he turns to leave. He doesn't see the tiniest flicker of gratitude on Sherlock's face as he does..."
WELL DONE, JOHN. GOOD POINT TOO.
Much faster, he grabs the paper; it crinkles in his hand, which is almost shaking in its urgency, and he unfolds it. The handwriting is neat. The sentence is only six words long.
Burn the heart out of you.."
OKAY, YOU DIDN'T...DID YOU? SERIOUSLY, DID YOU? OH MY GOD...
| Skyfullofstars chapter 2 . 4/2/2012
"...he sees something large and heavy being shifted and catches sight of a pale hand. A sleeve; black, wet, torn. A thin face, whiter than he has ever seen it but smeared with dirt, and a mop of curly dark hair.."
AND POOR JOHN, BEING CARRIED AWAY WHILE HE KNOWS - HE KNOWS - THAT SHERLOCK IS STILL THERE BUT HE CAN'T REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS ENOUGH TO TELL THEM WHERE TO LOOK !
I LOVE THE WAY YOU HAVE JOHN, WHO IS, OF COURSE, A TRAINED ARMY DOCTOR, MENTALLY CATALOGUE HIS INJURIES...THE ONE LINE THAT STOPPED ME WAS: "...His shoulder and leg hurt. Previous injuries. Not important.."
OH JOHN, OF COURSE THEY ARE IMPORTANT. NOT SURE WHY, BUT THAT LINE UTTERLY STOPPED ME.
"...The rational part of his mind tells him that Sherlock is already receiving all the treatment that he needs, but a stronger part of him tells him he needs to be involved – he needs to do something other than just sit here..."
SO DIFFICULT WHEN HE IS A DOCTOR AND KNOWS HE CAN HELP SHERLOCK AND FEELS HE SHOULD HELP SHERLOCK..BUT HAS TO JUST SIT THERE INSTEAD WHILE OTHERS TEND TO HIM...
"...If he shot Moriarty, we would both have been shot as well – we had a better chance if the bomb went off. We jumped in the pool.'
It sounds so ridiculously idiotic and surprisingly simple when he explains it, but in his mind it's still a mess, still confusing; it's difficult even to sort events into chronological order as he recounts them..."
BUT THAT'S THE WAY OF REAL LIFE, TOO. YOU ARE IN AN INCREDIBLY TENSE SITUATION..AND WHEN IT'S OVER...YOU TRY TO EXPLAIN TO OTHERS WHY YOU TOOK THE ACTIONS YOU TOOK...AND IT JUST COMES OUT SOUNDING WRONG SOMEHOW.
| Skyfullofstars chapter 1 . 4/2/2012
"...Fear is not a concept Sherlock Holmes is used to, much less terror. He had quite forgotten he could even feel such things, until now – until he is stood with Moriarty in front of him, with the bomb in front of him – not entirely sure which of them is more dangerous – and John to the side, John slumped against the wall, John as trapped as he is. As all three of them are.
There is no way out of this, no way of escape for him, for Moriarty or for John, and worse than fear, another, stronger emotion is surfacing; hate. Pure, absolute, burning, raging, destructive, uncontrollable hate..."
AND THE BEGINNINGS OF WHAT LOOKS LIKE A MOST EXCELLENT TAKE ON THE BELOVED (INFAMOUS?) POOL SCENE. I MUST SAY, I PREFER THE STORIES WHERE THE POOL EXPLODES..AND NOT THE REALITY WHERE THE RINGTONE INTERRUPTS THEM...IT JUST SEEMS MORE RIGHT SOMEHOW...
"...'Enlighten me,' Sherlock's eyes rake the pool for what must be the hundredth time; his face is expressionless and his hand, holding the gun, completely steady, but his insides are in turmoil. There must be an escape..."
AND THOSE TWO WORDS ARE SOOO SHERLOCK..SAID WITH UTTER COOLNESS WHILE HE LOOKS AROUND FOR AN ESCAPE FOR HIM AND JOHN...
"...John hurries forwards, trying to clear his head, trying to focus; Sherlock is collapsing, he's bleeding, he's covered in blood...so much blood...he's pale, paler than ever, paler than death – no – no he's not, he can't be...he's so far away...why does he look so far away? Why isn't he moving anymore? And why won't John's legs do as he tells them to?
OH THIS IS SUCH A GOOD START. VERY ANGSTY BUT VERY SAD. WHY DOESN'T SHERLOCK REMEMBER JOHN? HOPING IT'S JUST TEMPORARY..RUNNING OUT TO READ NOW.

Really liking this- going to the sequel now. BTW, both House and Holmes seem to be Aspies - are Wilson and Watson both saints?
