Well, Personally, even though I hate Ron in this story, i think the punishment is sufficient. It's the ones who attacked Hermione that should be suspended/expelled, but i guess this was the only way to keep the secret. Ron was wrong, but outing your friends isn't an excuse for expulsion. In fact, Harry's getting off rather light, since he could have killed Ron...even if Ron deserved it.

strange...some things about Slytherin are a lot better...things like the training room are just weird :P
