In chess, it is illegal to place the King in check. The King is never eliminated as the other pieces are. The end of the game occurs when a King can not be removed from check. This is known as 'checkmate'. Bella's strategy is a common one, but never concluded in this way. If an opponent does not realize they have placed the King in check, it is the player's responsibility to inform them of it. Bella's Queen placed Carlisles' King in check. If the King could not escape check, Bella would declare checkmate to end the game. I imagine a game of chess against Carlise would not end this way. The only victory I could imagine would involve a forfeit. In chess, a forfeit occurs when a player cannot achieve checkmate, while the opponent is left no option other than running from check. This would end in the opponent tipping the King over. In chess, a forfeit is not a victory and is rather frowned upon. It is disgraceful to both players. In my own opinion, Carlisle would never fall for such a beginner's strategy as to use the Queen as bait. He would notice the setup and annihilate it. Like your story, just thought you should know.

I KNOW WHY EDWARD IS A JERKFACE! OMG I just had this major epiphany in the middle of their conversation but I won't spoil it! GAH! Everything just makes sense now!
I really love this story but I wish it was complete...?

So I chanced upon your story last night and I loved it so much I read through 20 chapters in one sitting. You're a brilliant writer and I love the way you detail the blood training! And – oh, Bella can be SO infuriating at times. Honestly. I just wanted to smack her sometimes. But I loved all the bonding moments with Rose/Emmett/Jasper/Esme etc! Especially the movie and the cooking : ) please do more of those, if it isn't too much to ask.
Once again, great story! I can't wait for the next chapter : )
