That said, more continuity nods are nice-the chemical spills on the floor (Oh ye gods, how I hated those!) and that stupid "exit door" room that you're not allowed to go in by.

Good to see Rolf wrestling a bit with his leadership role. Looking forward to see if Hugh's drunk, drugged by random chemicals, or just failed a few too many SAN rolls in succession...

A good start, and it explains why Hugh joins them after they Biosystems exploration. His personality seems kind of overexuberant and over-the-top, but I also like that because it keeps him from becoming a Hahn clone, which is the usual portrayal when he even makes it into fanfics (I'm guilty of it myself).

I like the idea that Amy was a friend of his, not just because they both are scientific types, but because they're both "normal" people with normal jobs and people like that have family, connections, a grounding within society and thus emphasizes normalcy.

Looking forward to chapter two!
