So I was too lazy to look for my physical copy of Emperor Mage and found this by accident trying to google a free online read. Let me just say- as soon as I finished the series for the hundredth time and followed it up with a re-read of the Lioness as well, I hunted this back down and I have now read everything you wrote in the world of Tortall. My only regret is that there isn’t more and that you are also no longer active here. If by chance you see this and have more material on another site, I’m dying to read it. I’m not quite ready to leave that world yet but I’ve already re-read everything Tamora has put out there, so am eagerly seeking more now that I’ve seen your work. If you need a critique- I don’t care for Daine’s overuse of the colloquialism ‘fair,’ nor the context of it at times, but I swear these would pass as Pierce off-roading as a writing exercise to all but her most avid readers. You’ve done an excellent job here and I’m not ready to let it go.

Awwww... I loved this. Absolutely nailed the tone of the books, and super sweet. I love everything about it. This is exactly what I needed to tide me over until the Numair prequel comes out next week...

SOOOO good! Oh my goodness - I knew the bird was Arram right away, of course, but Kaddar..! Brilliant, simply brilliant. I had been intrigued by Kalasin being taken by a stable-boy and thought there might be something more behind that, but that he'd turn out to be the Prince of Carthak..! Brilliantly done. I am speechless.

I read this whole story from start to finish in one go! I found it a fine re-imagining of one of my favorite stories. I like the tone of how you tell it, and the way that Daine's and Numair's relationship develops. All the character motivations are sound, and I might even say they are Pierce-like! Thanks for a fun read!

Unbelievable idea, and I loved your characterization of everyone! Such an interesting concept- I especially loved your chapters detailing the events of the not-actually-an-execution.
