This is definitly the best fanfic i've ever read and it probably the best i'll ever read. The incredible amount of time and detail that went into this is amazing. I'm rereading my favourite parts the entire time, and although i usually don't like character changes whatsoever and this story had about 4 to 5 really, really long pages with this everything else made up for it. I only have a complaint about these pages since they're referred to as shadow-blender which made it a little difficult to know who's pov it was at that moment. And although i love the entire story, i disliked the ending since you decided to make your own version of an entire story but stuck with the original of human hiccup and dragon toothless. And what made this script so amazing is that i went through sleepless nights, and hot days with no food and barely any drinks and wanted to cry and scream at multiple points, because i was so into this. (And since i get distracted so easily and get extremely side-tracked creating my own story based on a dicision that i made differently than the characters, it took me about 64 hours of straight reading and only about 8 hours of sleep.) Worth it though.
So all i can say is that this is a story that should have sold millions or more in books and would have sold even more movie copies.
And i think i would need to bow to the performer for once. Bravo Rift-Raft you've made my boring life perk up.

I just reread this, and I still cannot get over just how brilliant it is. I keep seeing little details and hints that I didn't notice or understand the first time through. It was like reading it for the first time all over again. Possibly one of the-scratch that, definitely one of the-most well-crafted stories I have ever read, fanfiction or otherwise.

I'm not going gentle into this good night. Even if I need the sleep.

The most physically and perhaps emotionally exhausting story I have ever experienced.
The only piece of writing that I stayed up past 1 in the morning for.
The deepest characters that I have ever seen.
The only story that has ever made me feel like I aged a year in the thirty-odd hours over which I read it.
Who would ever have thought in the first few chapters that the incredible enmity would become such a strong bond? And the magic thing is certainly unique. I've seen some mythology before, but it's almost invariably Norse, not anything like this. The nest and the Queen received such detail that I was perplexed at first. This story is truly epic. No, beyond epic. Life-changing. Seriously, I might as well end my fanfiction journey after this. Even if my feels felt like Hiccup did during his first transformation, I forgive you. Thank you. For everything.

Anyway im loving this so far im 10 chapters in and skipped like the first 3 little slow start, but all in all this is amazing something to keep you occupied and it has a lot of adorable moments

I've stumbled upon this fic the other day and it has kept me awake! On one side, I wish I could have stumbled upon it sooner so that I could have waited in anticipation for the next chapter, and on the other, I am glad to have come across your work when it was already completed since the wait would kill me! This was a page-turner, but at the same time, I did not want to turn the page or move on to the next chapter since such a great experience would come to an end. When it did end and it has left me wanting more. This story has left a gap within me, so now I shall... I have no idea, but I'll figure it out.

You were a very dedicated author and this story has affected me greatly. This will be one of the stories that would lead me to confusion and will make me wonder what really happened in the movies and what I have read. Overall, reading your work makes me want to read it for the first time again (if that makes sense). I will truly miss this story, and I wish to read it again one day.

1 question: why toothless and hiccup didn't know each other

The ending left me rather sad even though I did kind of see it coming.
Although I saw that you're considering a sequel so I'm hopeful.

I Can't help but feel that I should tone down my other review... just a bit. No offense intended.

Normally, I have an idea on how to start writing. This time, I have no clue.

Sure, I’m not anywhere near the best author, (There’s nothing on my page, don’t bother yourself with looking) but I at least will have a plan- an outline, if you will -that applies to starting a piece.

It rarely differentiates from a certain, rather orthodox pattern, I’ll admit as much.
And as such, it comes naturally. It rarely takes me more than a few minutes to think of a beginning- usually the first few sentences will have a trademark feel to them. Perhaps they’ll contain an emotion, or a character- anything that might capture the reader.

It may seem like an odd case of poetic justice, in the fact that I mention the essence to the beginning of any story, when I write this as a review for the last of these long, inciting chapters.

As to the reasoning of that, it is only due to emphasize the sheer enormity of where this brilliant form of literature stands, and of course, to justify that I have read it in its entirety before writing this- it is a mistake I’ve made in the past.

There are over 470,000 entries in the 3rd Edition Webster’s International Dictionary, and over 1,000,000 officially recorded words in the English Language, and yet I can still find none worthy of summarizing the true epitome of writing and literature that is I Hear Him Scream.

But it did more than impress me.
It CHANGED me.

I’ve read the works of Harper Lee, John Steinbeck, and Stephen King. Their stories were flawlessly written, with messages that were true and fully justified. They well reflected the habits and depressions that lie within the depths, and rest upon the heights of human nature. Yet none of them did much more than emphasize or simplify things that I might have been able to figure out on my own. Despite my love for their books, they paled in comparison of what truly altered my view of reality, and the depths of the struggle that is the human identity and experience.

I could go on blabbering about how I developed a bit of an obsession with the characters from HTTYD only a few months ago, or how the level of esteem I gave you grew higher and higher with each chapter, each paragraph, each CHARACTER you wrote. I could talk for hours about how I went through a few tooth-related (Ironic, I know) surgeries whilst reading these, my willpower to stay strong throughout balanced only by a single, re-invigorating thought; If Hiccup and Toothless can survive such excruciating physical and intoxicating mental pain, I can make it through these easily.

But I won’t say these things.
Instead I will say the only words I can, the only words I should be saying, in truth.
Thank you, Rift-Raft. You’ve done more for me than you know.

Aaaaahhhhh! Words cannot describe how amazing this experience was! I read all of this on about 3 days, using up all of my free time for it. 100% worth it!

This story is one heck of an emotional roller coaster, and something I will have in my mind for a long while after.

The beginning was heart breaking, and tragic, slowly watching Hiccup getting beaten down by everything the world threw at him. My personal favorite parts were all of the playful and fun times with Toothless, which distracted from the horrible situation they were in. Wen they got to the part in the nest, controlled by the queen... I. Was. Pissed. No words can describe how strongly I hate that stupidly oversized dragon. Just... Grrrrr! And finally Toothless giving up his flight, his freedom, to save his best friend... It was just great. I can't help but feel that the parts with the Dragon of the Sun, and Dragoness of the Moon felt a little... Planned, and a little far fetched for what had happened earlier in the story. However, everything was so well (shadow)blended together, that I can hardly imagine any other way of going about it.

I just want to thank you for this experience, and will be looking forward to more stories from you in the future.

Funny story; I got so into reading this fanfiction, that I actually cut the inside of my mouth from biting down on my cheek due to my sheer anticipation of what was going to happen next. Lol. Anyway, I loved reading this. It was well written and had a very engaging plot (enough to cause physical harm to me. I should sue ;) ). The characters' emotions and unique personalities were also very well portrayed. This is one of the few stories on this site that isn't just some re-write of a beloved plotline with shitty OCs with zero flaws becoming best friends with the main characters and saving the world, blah blah blah. I wish more fanfictions had this level of quality and depth to them. That's all I have to say. Thanks for the good read m8!
