This is a FASCINATING story! Seeing people with familiars, ...er, ..., friendly, benevolent "daemons" are very cool, and I'm looking forward to seeing Sherlock and John meet.

I take it that "HDM" refers to "His Dark Materials", from the books and TV series, right?

This is still my favorite fanfiction that I’ve ever read. It was one of my first ones that I found when I was much, much younger. And even though it may never be finished, it inspired my love of Daemon fics and to write fanfiction myself. So thank you!

Just wanted to say how much I still love this fic after all these years. I was reminded of it while watching the HDM HBO series (have you seen it? It’s awesome!) and wanted to come back and read it. I never read very many Sherlock fics but this is definitely the only one I remembered well, haha.

I love how you describe people and their daemons interacting... it’s better even than Pullman’s descriptions, if I dare say so. Sometimes Pullman neglects to mention daemons during conversations or action, and you almost forget they’re there until they’re mentioned again — they seem like sidenotes. But in your writing they’re never second to their human, and you never forget about them. Just something I really appreciate, because I wish that’s how the books were!

I also really admire how fluidly you’ve combined the two canons. I love the idea that the events of HDM are this world’s past, and all the history that’s become relevant again in Sherlock’s era. And using daemons for detective work... omg. Like, daemons can give SO much away. They’re not as good at hiding emotions, and their shape is literally their person’s personality. Also the concept of people dying when their daemon is killed — if a daemon kills another daemon, and the dead daemon poofs into dust, it must be so much harder to figure out what happened.

Anyway! I hope you’re doing okay. I just really wanted to let you know how highly I think of this fic! It really is one of my favorites.

This first chapter has simply drawn me in. Painted such a vivid picture, I lost track it was only the first chapter. (hope that makes sense)

Fun crossover! Subtle knife and sherlock who knew that would be total gold eh?
I love the world building you did here to blend sherlock into this cross over was genius. Also the slow build on their relationship has this fangirl thrilled. Thank you for the great story and hope to see a conclusion on it some day :)

A shame this one has gone unfinished...truly fascinating. It makes me want to go back and read His Dark Materials, as I never actually finished the trilogy. I found the gooden compass delightful...but got lost partway through the subtle knife. Thank you for furthering two fandoms with this work - thoroughly interesting.

I really thought, for some reason, that this fic was finished. Oh, well.
