This is up there with the most dangerous joke in the world used in WW2.
Translated a single word at a time into German. One bloke translated two and I think he was in the hospital for a week...

Considering that binding magical contracts can be made via a magical artifact that's been confounded I wouldn't say this trope is entirely unsupported.
There just aren't any magical artifacts that we know of for making marriage contracts.
But I'm sure somebody would have thought of it, if not created it. :P
