NeverNeverGirl chapter 1 . 9/8/2023
Found this wee gem while looking for something else and I'm so glad I decided to read it, cos it's absolutely brilliant. Well thought out, beautifully written and with more than merely a hint of chilling reality woven throughout, this really is a masterpiece. What makes it so good, is that this could happen - who's to say it won't?
Karl E Llewellyn chapter 1 . 2/28/2015
Damn this was a great version of the story. Better then the movie. As far as the movie I have never believed in an undefeatable enemy. Any target can be destroyed you just need to know how.
Matt Quinn chapter 1 . 10/7/2014
I do like the WAR OF THE WORLDS tack you take with this story. Pretty creative. I like how you took Jarrod's situation-a mind affected somehow by multiple exposures that retains its sentience even after harvested-and took it to the logical conclusion that this is something that could have happened hundreds of times. And not just for individual alien warriors, but massive alien war machines and even starships. I never even thought of that possibility and I'm one of the few, the proud, the non-ironic fans of SKYLINE. :)

To crank up the horror, you could have referenced how with the failure of the initial counterattack, the nukes would come out in a much larger scale. The darkest ending I could have thought of for SKYLINE wasn't the canonical ending, but Jarrod leading a successful mutiny aboard one of the alien ships only for everybody to be killed by nukes launched from submarines that the aliens might not even be aware of, much less able to easily attack. You mention individual "human-aliens" getting lynched as the invasion crumbled, but imagine human-aliens and alien-aliens, the righteous and unrighteous alike, dying by the thousands in firestorms that killed vast numbers of captives and hiding survivors as well.

I do hope you pick this up back up again. A WWZ-style account of the war with the aliens would be really fun to read.

BTW, I like the image of the "fierce, tearful girl" too.

interesting

Good story! I was a little puzzled by th end of the movie, too, and it would be good to see other stories about what happened after Jarrod fought inside the ship.
Anyway, good job!
Rainbowhawk1993 chapter 1 . 10/4/2012
Wow. I basicly needed this fic. It basicly describes what the movie could have followed but left out with too many over engrossing visuals. I first thought the ending was WTF but how you connected Skyline to War of the Worlds makes perfect sense.

If the directors could have explained that part more in depth and perhaps could have shown an ending where the ships begin to pannack flee earth, then I would have given the movie some simpethy.

Great fic. Good Ideas can be made from the ashes of bad ones and you proved it.

Enjoyed it! Thanks!

Interesting fic. When I saw the movie, if they had ended while the couple was being lifted into the air (as the commentary suggested) it would have been quite a different story. But as it is, it was an extinction level event, with just a little hope at the end, but not enough to really think humanity could live.

Nice "fix" for the ending.

Thanks for the story.

Wordlurker chapter 1 . 6/16/2011
This is an awesome follow-up to the end of Skyline. I loved it (and the movie too). I can only hope others will write some more Skyline fanfiction that can match the quality of this piece, short though it may be.
oldRazberri chapter 1 . 1/18/2011
I have to say that I could not stop laughing at the horrible-ness of the movie Skyline. There were so many things about it that screamed "stupid!" and "cheezy!" to me. But anyway, the whole concept behind Skyline is rather fascinating, which is why I'm reviewing your fanfic (probably the only Skyline fanfic in existence).

Your style is perfect. You managed to rehash everything that happened and on a global scale, while keeping me entertained and way more interested than I was when I watched the movie. You expanded the events of Skyline into such a perspective that I was able to believe what I'd seen in the movie. (Before I read your fic, I thought the movie was laughably dumb. But that's just me.)

My favorite part:

"...Hundreds of people awoke on the morning of the fourth day to see a red-glowing ship hovering above them, and a fierce, tearful girl guiding its actions with the sound of her voice and the touch of her hand."

THAT is an amazing image. The film should have ended that way.

In conclusion, this fic is a seriously good idea and it redeemed the movie, if that makes sense. You were able to take a somewhat cliche alien invasion movie and mesh it with scientific and sociological sense, providing an outcome that gave me as the reader a wider lens with which to enjoy the story. I know you probably won't, but I think you should keep writing this.

Nice. Good enough to make me actually want to watch the movie.
Deritine chapter 1 . 12/1/2010
I don't know this movie that you speak of, but the fic was good! A nice short story. I kind of want to see it now, even though you seem to have absolutely no love for the movie. Heh. Excellent narration and fun documentary style.
Banner chapter 1 . 11/30/2010
... and now I want to see Skyline.

We always were adaptable - and nasty - far out of proportion to our obvious physical appearance.
