I'm amazed he bothered to care about someone who dumped him the way Lily did, actually. I suspect that he was really close to being a *real* Death Eater, and who, frankly, had no real reason to love Lily at all after the way she treated him.
And of course, we saw what his reward was. Nice way to encourage others to backtrack on an evil path, isn't it? The good guys use you even while despising you, and making sure the Greater Good includes losing what little you have gained over the years. In Regulus Black's case, it's a sticky death with only a house elf to mourn him; and Snape didn't even have that much. Why, even Voldemort's body was laid out properly, but not Snape, of course.
Snape might just feel like this sometimes-good story for pointing it out.

This was an excellent story. You're really a very good writer. Poor Snape. The way this was told was so real, and really made me feel for him. Great job.
