Fabulous writing to strong effect. "Enjoyed" is the wrong word, but I certainly appreciated the very high quality of this chapter.

BTW, I think you've captured Potter perfectly. This is exactly how canon Potter would have acted if Lily had been a real friend to Snape and not dumped him for the rich, handsome, popular jock. Canon Lily was purposefully, self-righteously oblivious to the fact that the Marotters' (name from Alethea27) attacks, not confined to Snape, were no less cruel than those of Snape's dormmates. Parroting the labels that the (corrupt!) Ministry put on spells is no argument for or against them; it's the effect of a spell's particular casting that matters.

Canon Black would have been right in there at the Snape-kill, too: after all, his was the Shack murder attempt. Your cleaned-up version is plausibly introduced and persuasively written, though I do have some difficulty erasing the true Black from my mind.

The relentless PCBS yammer about "gender equality" in this chapter's reviews is depressingly stupid and unsurprising.

The operative factor here is the relative severity of the two actions, which all these dunderheads ignored. Political equality is ~not~ physical equality! It's not, dammit! In humans, the average male has a distinct and undeniable physical advantage over the average female of the same age.

It comes down to the old saw, "Pick on someone your own size!" It's true that LE ideally should have waited for McG to issue consequences to Potter for his attack on Pettigrew, but her offense was far, far less serious than Potter's reaction. Her blow probably had less than half - possibly much less than half - the force of his. She was smaller, lighter, weaker, slower, and unpracticed: she had probably never hit anyone in anger before, making this her first offense.

(I never heard of serious blows between my local secondary-school boys, let alone imagined such a thing between girls. Any fights that may have occurred were neither publicly performed nor widely revealed in the average school {outside the slums}. Maybe not true now, but they're in mid-1976 here.)

Potter was a dedicated bully whose repeated attacks would not have been confined to wand-waving: he'd put any boot in, any way he could, to anyone he was confident of beating. LE's blow was directed at someone larger, heavier, ~and~ possessed of the testosterone-fueled upper-body strength of a post-pubescent male. Potter used his size, weight, strength, speed, and knowledge to whack LE, who couldn't match him in any of them.

Equal? Pfui!

Well, now I do hope Severus can invent the wolfsbane early. It would help others out for sure.

I’m left wondering how Neville, Luna and hermione are without Harry being in school with them. Did nev step up and befriend hermione. Was Lin’s left to be bullied all 7 years with no friends without Harry? I kind of wish lily had a son with green eyes born on the 31 st of July that they named Hadrian Severus Prince. Lily could still nick name him Harry. But it would pay respect to all Harry did and suffered. Like Harry was still born just with a different dad. Now it’s like the story is saying the worlds better without Harry. Maybe I’m alone in that but I’d like knowing Harry’s soul was still here just instead of a potter he’s a prince.

Of course Lily could come up with a spell extrapolated from her best friend's work. She did something real arcane in the other timeline to dispossess Tom Marvalo Riddle from a body and give her son a nice headstart with a blood-protection.

I just finished after about a week. This is SO GOOD. It's just SO GOOD. I love how real Severus and Lilly's relationship was, and how it stayed true to the books the whole time. The writing style even felt the same as J.K. Rowling's! I literally can't express how much I loved this.
