Loved the way Rachel doesn't know whether Jesse's sucking up or actually trying to look out for her. It's obvious to us readers that he's worried she'll get herself into more trouble but Rachel still doesn't know.
Love their reactions to their parts. I was expecting you to have them play romantic leads so it was a nice little twist. I didn't actually realise The Secret Garden was a musical so another little surprise. I thought Jesse being more optimistic was good especially when it was a part played by someone he respected as an actor. He knows Shelby better as Rachel observed so he knows the what he can and can't push with her.
For the record I don't think Rachel or Jesse are acting too chidlishly. They're both still teenagers, you mentioned earlier that she was sixteen and he can't be anymore than 19. Of course they're going to act like that when their stressed especially when they're both so dramatic.
I’m in my early twenties, a uni grad and have a full-time job and I can still act like a five-year –old when I want to.;) Rachel and Jesse are both a lot more mature than most people they’re age but they’re still young.
Can’t wait till the next chap.

Great chapter! Personally I love the bickering. Plus you don't want them to forgive each other and get back together so soon.
I also like how Jesse doesn't seem to eager to apologise to her and make her forgive him. It makes a nice change from all the stories out there where he comes back begging for her forgiveness and another chance.
Hope to see more soon!

So glad you updated :) Love, love, love this story!
But I don't really get what Rachel's doing so wrong (except for the whole silly going rogue thing). She's actually handling things pretty well. I mean being forced to live with a guy who egged her and then bribed into a working relationship with the mother who downright rejected her-it's a bitter pill to swallow. I would have just thrown a fit at the indignity of it all, threatened to walk back to Ohio, then pawned my watch for a bus ticket home. And I'm much more "mature" than Rachel lol.
Can't wait to read more!

This is a really good story, but it makes me want to punch Rachel in the face. She's being such a baby! I hope she figures that out soon. I LOVE Jesse's aunt Becca! She's so funny!

Hi (I'm posting without logging in cause the site wouldn't let give a second review and I accidentally hit the button before I could mention this. Shh!)
I just wanted to add that I loved Rachel's interaction with her dads. The way you convey that she, unconciously at least, feels they kind of abandoned her the same way others have (Jesse and Shelby amoung others) is excellently done. I love how Leroy's the traditional protective father and Hiram's the sensible, practical 'mother' figure.
It was hilarious how she bluffed about possibly sleeping with Jesse and then get flustered when they called her on it. He just came over to talk and then just didn't leave. Ha.
As Northstar mentions in her own fantastic fic Rachel's birthdate is 18/12/94 (she states it in Dream On)so that makes her 16 in the current season, 14 at the beginning of season 1 and barely 15 when she meets Jesse who is approximately 18 (?) at the time.
The shifting reaction towards the topic is a good reflection of how despite the fact that she is much more mature than her age, she is still pretty innocent. (Although with Rachel its probably an innocence she'll always have no matter how old she gets or what she experiences. It seems like her character.)
Just wanted to mention how great your balancing the fact that despite their maturity they're both still teens and have alot of trouble dealing with their current feelings and circumstances.

Fantastic. I love any update even if angsty. Frankly some StBerry stories have them exchanging two words and living happily ever after. They're good stories but not overly realistic. Your story is. They need to work through their issues first.
I like their interaction here. Jesse's fustrated and Rachel isn't willing to budge. She's right about him needing to stop forcing her though. I'm curious about Jesse's thoughts on the current turn of events, we've got Rachel's but Jesse's are still only hinted at.
Nice little part about Rachel missing her friends. Glad you mentioned Puck. I like the Puckleberry friendship. To me its a variation of the sibling relationship, like the way Hummelberry is. (An incestuous one maybe but still.) Puck thinks Rachel's an annoying know-it-all and she'll lecture him about just anything but they still see each other's good points and will defend each other even while fighting with one another.
So happy to see another chapter! I accidentally spoiled myself and ended up sick for four days (the two may not be directly related or I'm possibly an even bigger drama queen than Rachel and Jesse :)) so seeing this was a great pick-me-up. Can I just say we so need another week. Even an angsty one.

So I found this story this morning, then attempted to read it all day. I have no idea how many times I told my boss I was too busy to do something because I was staring at my mobile screen, trying to finish just one more chapter.
I just love this so much! The characterizations are perfect. Rachel and Jesse's drama queen-theatrics are hilarious. His aunt is totally bad ass. And I adore that Shelby taught him the manners to go along with the attitude-too adorable.
All the relationships are complex and amazing...And am I gushing too much? I'm just in love with this, and you should really write more.
