I so look forward to your stories. They're atmospheric, filled with sensory detail-the odor of decaying books, the ungainly porcelain lamp, etc. engages me on so many levels. Reminds me of John LeCarre. I loved the part about Illya loving the smell of gunpowder, by the way. Your description of Cambridge life is spot on as well, and your concluding paragraphs are simply stunning. Thanks so much for sharing your unique talent with us readers.

This is brilliant and superbly written on so many levels but what really stands out is the imagery, especially the use of weather as a metaphor for the world of spies
