Well thought out.

This is quite possibly the best thing I've ever read...
I don't think there's much more left for me to say, other than that.

Damn, but this is one fine story! Whether it was well and deeply thought out or sprang from your head like Athena, it is inspired. This could have been preachy or glossed up, the subject often is, but you have managed to be poignant and heartfelt while keeping it very much in John Watson's 'voice'. Thank you for the perfect holiday story, I read it at the perfect time, right when I needed to 'hear' it. If your other writing is of this calibre, seriously consider it professionally, while difficult, the writing landscape needs this kind of influence.
Keep up the hard work!

Traveling pretty soon, right into the jaws of trouble. (Interpret that any way you like.) Spent my day musing about boom and doom over ham. Read this.
It's beautiful. It doesn't gloss over the terrible crap that happens every day - it's just a reminder of what gets people through that crap. It may be sobering, but it's better than a Christmas card, I find. Thanks for this.

Wonderful! It was both humorous and serious. Very real, very in character!
Also, "old-timey" somehow reminded me of doctor who.
