Ugh, this is so perfect. I never cared much for Avaric until reading this. You write perfectly spectacularly. I'm not even envious; just in awe.

| Musique et Amour chapter 1 . 12/27/2010
This is a fine example of intelligent and provocative writing. It's a subtle piece, but expertly told and evocative of Gregory Maguire. I loved it!
| ElphabaROCKS chapter 1 . 12/27/2010
Avaric and Glinda...unusual, but I kind of like it. The pairing could certainly be considered, seeing the book's many references to multiple pairings.
Excellent story, beautifully written!
| Red Skeleton chapter 1 . 12/26/2010
So what do I have to do to get you to write ME a story for Christmas? Is there a special place you have to sign up to be razzled and dazzled by the Noble Arduenna? All kidding aside, I cannot complain when you're wowing me with writing like this. Do you know I started freaking when an alert for a story popped up on my computer today? You are sneaky! Sneaky and incredible. I hope your beta loved this. Avaric is totally the bad boy of the books and now he's the most sympathetic character in them. HOW. DO. YOU. DO. THAT? And how do you make me secretly think that he could really be cute with Glinda? AGH! The things you do to my brain!
I was shocked when I saw you'd written a story about Glinda and Avaric. What? They're not the most traditional pairing out there and that strikes me as weird after reading this. Maybe it's just how great you've made their similarities come to life on the page. I started rereading the Avaric parts in Wicked after this and wow, it really fits together. His moment with Glinda out on the balcony really hurt my heart for both of them. You put it better than I could:
"The truth of his own personal cowardice was a reflection of Glinda herself; a hurt that had lasted longer than anyone could have expected or imagined. It was ironic, in a way, that they should share such a strikingly similar fate. They were two handsome people with the world at their fingertips, and neither of them wanted any part of it."
Your Glinda is always killing me in some way (when your not killing her, ha ha) and don't think I missed those gelphie vibes you always slip into everything. I also like the balance you struck between Avaric's crassness and his sincerity. It's just like Spike on Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, we love the bad boy but we also love him when he's wearing his heart on his sleeve. I was totally swept up when they started dancing. It's one of the most beautiful things you've written. The end especially really kills me because suddenly, I'm really starting to wonder why Avaric wanted to see Glinda. It was something glanced over in Son of a Witch, but now, it's got me thinking. Was Avaric happy with everything he had, or are appearances, like always, deceiving? I want to believe with all of my heart that they shared something special like this.
Oh man. Thank you for writing this beautiful story and as always, I pray for you and your dear family. Please keep writing more and more because I never get tired of reading it.

It's funny because I was hoping you would wriye something in the spirit of Christmas. I was so pleased that you did. I lovef how mich depth you gave Avaric as a character. I felt for him when he lost his boyhood dream and innocence. You also did an excellent job with Glinda. It is subtle but I certainly can sense the Gelphie in this fic when Avaric and Glinda danced. That simple moment made my heart ache for both of them, one lost his innocence, the other lost a friend. Thank you for writing such a fabulous fic. I look forward to more Wicked stories from you in the future.
