| meridian-rose chapter 1 . 1/2/2011
Oh, Mal. How can you understand when you're not female?
Then again I don't think we know enough of the Firefly verse to be certain but there seems to be limited scope for women in it; they are often shown to be Companions (Inara) Whores (Nandi) Thieves (Saffron) Wives (Mrs Tam) or Soldiers (Zoe) with a few women like the irritating society girls and their servants (Shindig), Alliance analyst types, and barmaids and so on shown on occasion. But I can't think of any professional women - Zoe poses as a paramedic (Ariel) but even there we see female nurses but not doctors...so I'm not sure what a virtuous woman would do in this world. Their choices seem to be join the Alliance (military/civil service type roles), marry, or work on the fringes.

Liked this, too!

This is a very realistic thought that was probably runnign through Mal's head most of the series.
Thanks for another great read!
