| skag trendy chapter 1 . 1/8/2011
Sam had no intention of surviving this hunt, eh? Poor guy has given up on himself, and on everything.
And it makes sense that Ruby would be scared of Sam dying, given what we later came to know of her true role in all this. No doubt she'd have been right in the sh*it for losing what was essentially the key to Lucifer's freedom.
Great start, hon. Looking forward to more.

Man, you captured what was happening that season beautifully. I am glad it is hitting Dean hard about his own behavior. He was being a big bully that whole year and then still had the audacity to feel superior, or whatever :P
I got chills when it was revealed that Sam's layrnx was crushed - ouch! And Dean getting into the seat with Sam and letting Ruby drive instead? Perfect. Made me want to coin a Dean Winchester phrase 'too little, too late' :P

Great so far! Can't wait for the next part

Yes, the show's unbelievably persistent habit of only showing Dean's emotional and personal issues is annoying and disappointing. Thank goodness there's people like you ready and waiting to fill in the blank spaces! What would we do without you?
Very enjoyable first chapter. I often thought that Dean came back from Hell damaged in ways that weren't apparent at first - his complete lack of patience and trust for Sam being one of them. He still loves him, but most of their other bonds were damaged or destroyed. Sam's sneaking about with Ruby was a straw on a thin bridge. Like Dean said in this chapter, trust has to be earned. Its apparent simply by this statement that Dean seems to have lost all the trust he once had - that Sam HAD earned, years ago - without even realizing it, blind to his own changes. Of course, being blinded by your own struggle to keep it together after Hell is pretty understandable. :P
Argh 3am! I'm sorry if this isn't very coherent!

Poor Sam, poor Dean! I loved this chapter and cannot wait for the next one. Looks like another excellent story for you to add to the list. Well done

Poor Sam. Can't wait to read the rest of this. I do wish the show would give us more of Sam's perspective on the crap he's been through, especially since Dean came back. It would also be nice to see the consequences of Dean's many orders play out (like you're showing here). Lately, the writers have had Dean batting a thousand and Sam comes across looking like the idiot of the year (as opposed to earlier in the show when they both had their genius and idiot moments). I'll get off my soap box now and congratulate you again on another interesting story.

I love that you wrote this. You are so right that we see far to little of Sam's development in the show. And I love how you wrote this one from Dean's POV, the one that knows Sam the best and sees how he changed and still changes the best. He is also the one that is most influenced by Sam's behavior and changes. The little tit bits in between about the waitress having only eyes for Sam and Dean being almost shocked, because he is so used to the attention and the thing in the bar, when Dean finds women watching him, but clearly not interested in more, make it so much more interesting.
Sam's behavior here is clearly the one of somebody in deep depression. He sees himself as a person that is beyond saving and feels he is not worthy to have an opinion or even to live. So he exists beside his brother and whenever he speaks up and Dean opposes him, he doesn't feel he has the right to fight for himself. Not even for eating a salad. It was almost logical that this would end in Sam not fighting against the demon on the beach. I saw it coming, because he thanked Dean before the went out there. It was like saying goodbye and telling Dean whatever was going to happen wasn't his fault. So really it was suicide what happened, or at least an attempt. I also have to add in that although I'm aware that you didn't know about the demon blood addiction at the time you wrote this, you managed to bring in some of the symptoms of withdrawal, like the inability to sleep, the restlessness, the withdrawing from Dean, the running off to the bathroom. The fit with withdrawal just as well as with depression. And as we know now, Sam would have had at least some symptoms, if he would have been without the blood for a while.
Bringing Ruby in this as the savior was pure genius. She had this ability to make Dean doubt his judgment of her from time to time. This one is a big one. Dean suddenly sees a worried, caring side of her and although we know by now what was behind this, after all she couldn't afford to loose Sam, it would have blown all her plans, Dean couldn't know this.
So I'm anxious to read the rest of this story. How is Dean going to deal with this Ruby? How is Sam going to act when he wakes up? How is Dean going to deal with his depressed, suicidal brother.
Great story. Hugs, Vonnie

Poor Sam, he is so depressed at this point that he is ready to die...I totally think he also believes that Dean is willing to sccrifice him now by the way he reacted when Dean decided to make Sammy the decoy. Not good!

"frustrated because we never see the consequences of major life changes for Sam played out in the same detail as Dean's"
Amen, sister. I think the timing of the release of this story is perfect. Looking forward to chapter 2.

Somehow this did make sense lol. It's strange to see how 'brotherly' Ruby is being while Dean is left flabbergasted how to take care of Sam or lack of thereof. It shows how sad the brothers relationship was back then. I can't wait to see more. ~Charity
