Another nice chapter. Really looking forwards to this story.
I think you're the only one who ever made Lockhart likeable without completly changing him.
| Weasel Fu chapter 2 . 1/13/2011
I liked the way you kept Sirius out of jail, and how Remus kept pestering him about why he wasn't in on the secret. You seldom see Remus acting like a Marauder but I thought that scene showed that side of him pretty well. I think that it is pretty unlikely that Sirius would just give up and trust Dumbledore's word that Harry is fine without him. Sirius has spent almost his whole life rebelling against authority (his family, the Hogwarts staff, etc.) and I don't think he would just blindly bow to Dumbledore's wishes on such an emotional issue and take "because I said so" as a sufficent reason to stay away from the kid of his best friends. I kind of foresee an ongoing running battle between Sirius and Dumbledore where Sirius tries to sneak over to see Harry and Dumbledore blocks him. It would be interesting to get your take on whether Remus would side with Sirius or Dumbledore on that issue. Most people have him blindly siding with Dumbledore, at least to start with, but maybe with Sirius out of jail he might side with Sirius, who is after all, Harry's legal guardian.
It will be interesting to see if the changes in cannon will have an effect on whether the deatheaters go to jail or not. Maybe when Dumbledore discovers that Harry is missing he will do what he didn't do before and actually throw some weight behind interrogating the deatheaters? When he finds out that they actually don't know anything about it then his mind will turn to other suspects and Lockheart might come to mind. But by that time Lockheart will probably have established himself firmly behind legal defenses and with his popularity Dumbledore might loose the battle for public opinion.
I look forward to seeing where you go with this next.
| Roxoan chapter 2 . 1/13/2011
I remember several years ago, there was a random "What if" comment on DLP. It was basically "What if Lockhart stumbled upon scene at Godric's Hollow and took credit for defeating the Dark Lord and then used said fame to raise Harry" Or something like that. That of course spawned several hilarious comments and little omakes. Sadly nobody ever wrote the fic, but I thought it would be hilarious.
While not the same, I hope this one lives up my expectations. Considering I like a lot of your previous humor work, I think it will.
| Selias chapter 2 . 1/13/2011
I've seen a few stories where Harry was raised by a HP character that's not really a major character before, but never one with Lockhart (I say not major, because he's only in one book, and he didn't get THAT much facetime). The one with Trelawney staying with the Dursleys and teaching Harry all about the "inner eye". But, this one seems to have a lot of promise for future reading, so I hope you update again soon!
| Blinded in a bolthole chapter 2 . 1/13/2011
You should give Herr Lockheart more screen-time than that you know!
| Teufel1987 chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
This is very interesting!
You don't get many stories featuring Gilderoy Lockhart ... mainly because he is a fop, but hey!
Looking forward to the next chapter!
I wonder what Sirius will do when he meets a kid who is more arrogant than he was when he was a kid ...
| Parrot Post chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
I really liked your part about Petergrew being an accesory to murder. Ive heard that arguement before and it never seemed right to me (and probably a lot of others) or like it would hold up in front of a jury. Actually it should be hard to convict any deatheater without use of truth potions which are obviously not full proof with all the 'imperioused' death eaters. It would be quite easy to say someone else in a mask did it. I expect public opinion wouldnt allow all death eaters to get away but it seems like public opinion is pretty much the judges who gets convicted if they didnt confess or get caught with witnesses that it was that deatheater in particular without successfully claiming imperious. You should probably do something about Arabella Fig later though u probably already thought of that. Anyway, I like how you were able to wrap everything up so well in Dumbledores conversation with Sirius. It seems like it would be hard to write an in character conversation where Sirius would agree to no contact but u managed it. Maybe Luna can meet Harry looking for snorkaxes an be an anti-lockheart influence. I loved ur line about how Lockheart was eager to get an order of merlin for something he was only able to accidently do a good deed because of illegal obliviation. :)
| Thenchick chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
i hate dumbledore. sirius is his LEGAL guardian and should have custody.
I realize that wouldn't be an option in this story but it has always urked me that they A) didnt give sirus a trial B) portray dumbledore as a good man when he manipulated Harry all his life C) killed sirus with drapery... I mean come on...its drapery!
post more soon plz
| stonegnome1 chapter 1 . 1/12/2011
lockahart as the hero? Who would have thought it.
Two corrections if you think them worth making.
Since he was planning on rescuing Harry form a good decade
typo from not form
Black had unknowingly just did Gilderoy a huge favor
just done not just did. It goes with had. had done not had did.
| Adeptis chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
Good chapter. And I very much dumbledore would keep that much track of him, only to the point of making sure nothing serious comes too close. He seems like the kind of guy who has far too much faith in his own abilities.
| Soraya the All Speaker chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
I still likes!
Lol at Petunia's instincts ;)
Loved the interplay between Remus and Sirius, it had your trademark humor in it D
| khaos974 chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
Why do they keep calling Pettigrew by the nickname Wormtail. As I remember, Wormtail was the nickname given to him when the quatuor were still all alive and friends*, which means that Wormtail is a term of endearment, an affectionate name.
After his betrayal, they would logically call him by his surname which would be quite neutral as they are distancing themselves to him or by a description like "the traitor".
*cf. Marauder's map
Anyway, this story is bookmarked.
| ReflectionsOfReality chapter 2 . 1/12/2011
You know it would be particularly ironic if the blood wards still take because Gilderoy was unknowingly Lily's 3rd cousin.
Why do I see either little Harry revising Lockhart's books for him or alternately when Lockhart's place in Harry's life the two of them release a companion series thus sending their profits through the roof. For some reason I can see Harry spending a few days with Lockhart's targets and actually taking notes on the magic used (and the history of the target learning the magic) rather than simply the stories and including them in his companion series. Alternately I can also see Harry picking up legelimancy and have him just copy the knowledge from the targets' mind...
Actually the mind arts might be something that Lockhart forces on Harry in an effort to protect their secrets when Harry is forced to go in public particularly to Hogwarts.
I like this start and I really hope it is something interesting...
What would Lockhart do about the unsanctioned boy who lived merchandise and stories?
