Just finished reading your NCIS stories and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed them. Since it's been 11 years since you posted anything I assume that you didn't write a sequel to this story. I would have liked to have read it.

This is one of the, if not *the*, best post-"Hiatus" stories I've read. While I recognize that NCIS is, at its heart, a police procedural, it's also one of the most character-driven ones with which I'm familiar. The show's writers and showrunners have, over the years (as I write this, Season 14 concluded a month or so ago), maintained a level of continuity and adherence to the show's "bible" that's pretty staggering, allowing us to see the characters growing and changing...but still remaining the same at their respective cores- but, every now and then, they've missed the mark by not expanding and/or focusing on what would or should have been significant events in those characters' lives.

Post-"Hiatus" is one of the times I think they fell short, especially with regard to the things you've highlighted here. We saw hints of the animosity shown by both Tim and Ziva toward Tony...but very little, in canon, of his real reactions to that. Likewise, Gibbs's return, and the way he just piled Tony's stuff on his old desk was very much Gibbs-ian...but I know I was hurting for Tony when I saw that episode and can't imagine the character wouldn't have been wounded as well...but, by the end of the show, Gibbs was back in charge and everyone else was in their assigned and expected places as well with little fallout.

Along with an excellent case fic, you did a superb job of exploring what was likely going on in the heads of both Tony and Gibbs. I was so glad that you allowed Tony to finally unleash his anger and hurt on Gibbs...and that you had Gibbs finally man up (though it took him long enough...but that's exactly what I'd expect from him!) and accept responsibility for what he did...and offer those much needed apologies.

I don't know if you're still writing or not. You mentioned a possible sequel to this, focusing on Tony's undercover assignment for Jenny and the whole Jeanne Benoit debacle. You really have a gift for capturing these characters (your Tony, in particular, rings very true to the headcanon I have for him; his complexity makes him remain my favorite...and I missed him terribly this last season), so I am going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that you're just taking your own hiatus from the world of fan fiction...but that the hinted at sequel will, at some point, be shared.

I know this was written some time ago but as I catch up on new stories i read older ones. This was certainly a great one. Funny to know since MW and our Tony will be moving on. I am now watching each rerun from this season and seeing many of those scenes with a whole new take on what we will be left with. I just wish Gibbs didn't seem so pissed at Tony this season. It reminds me of your story thru and thru!

It's interesting - every time I read this chapter, I see Abby excusing Tony's needs and wants and putting Gibbs first.

Nevermind that Tony's in a hospital bed, hurting. Gibbs needs ergo Tony must surrender and make Gibbs feel better, even if it isn't right or means sacrificing his own needs.

I've always thought and longed for Gibbs to have a rude awakening, to have to face that Tony is seen as a sacrificial offering by the people Gibbs think of as a family unit.

Ah. Mazing. I loved it! From beginning to end, the different points of view, the cases Team DiNozzo solved-it was all terrific! You did a great job on the angst, the dialogue, and the characters. Thank you for such an awesome fic.

Makes me wonder how Tony survived his early years as a police officer and then as a detective and all his undercover work for Baltimore police, without Gibbs guidance, when did Tony become so needy of Gibbs?.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Loved the "hurt" Tony - the physical and emotional hurt that I think you kept in total character for him. I loved the interaction between Tony and Gibbs as well. Glad I discovered this story and look forward to more.
