Oh dear, it seems the only way to bring out Arthur’s protective side is for something horrible to happen to Merlin. What happened in this story was pretty bad, and Arthur got very protective, which of course is what we all enjoy reading. I loved that brief scene near the end where they’re both sound asleep on the cart, and when Uther looks in they’re both unconsciously reaching out to each other.

What distinguishes your story from many with a similar theme is that you develop it in detail, taking the reader every step of the way over a number of chapters. You delve deeply into Arthur’s emotions – not an easy thing to do, as his main aim is to keep emotions at arm’s length.

I really couldn’t help wondering why Merlin didn’t use his magic either during the initial attack, or to free himself and Arthur early in their captivity before things got really bad. Surely the serious danger of their kidnapping would have been the appropriate moment for Merlin to finally admit he has magic – and after all he would very obviously be using it to protect Arthur.

In spite of my doubts why Merlin didn’t use magic, I loved this very well written story.

Wow, when I saw the summary, I thought this was going to be a short "they get taken hostage and Merlin has to reveal himself to bail them out" fic. I did not expect the depth of this story and the fact they got through it without reveal. Fabulous job!

Honestly this is really confusing, if this weren't a kidnapping I'd suggest sticking to this very professional group of mercenaries.

I really liked this. I love the strong bond that exists between Arthur and Merlin, and I think you've shown that really well. You've also done a great job with their banter. Really great job with this; I enjoyed reading it.

I am surprised that uther does not have poor Merlin executed

I was feeling nostalgic for Merlin tonight and honestly this was completely perfect and I stayed up way too long reading it.

Oh! So like them to ignore trauma and just tease eachother relentlessly haha.

Loved every second of this. Bravo! You captured there personalities perfectly, not one moment where I thought 'that's not Arthur, it's all wrong.' That makes me sound like a picky ass but. Hah yeah amazing story.
