Reviews for Empire's Son
ksecc1 chapter 33 . 9/25/2014
Oh wow. Just. Wow. Great story. I admit that I kind of wished that the long drawn out angst was...a bit less long and drawn out. But you always gave bits of hope and light. I was biting my nails until the end. And I deeply deeply would love to find out what happens with Luke. Maybe a story where he's on a bit of an upturn rather than a spiral down? Your characters are so deeply emotive and your plot is so tension packed and complex. Can I say again that I would love love love to see the sequel?

Katie Salbrux chapter 34 . 7/16/2014
Umm… Hi! :D first of all, please, forgive my bad English; it’s (unfortunately) not my first language (I’m just a Hungarian girl who loves good fics ’)
So. I planned to write reviews to your other stories, too, but I think I’ll just do it in one piece (so you only need once to try to understand what I’m trying to write…xD).
Let me tell you; I’m a big, BIG fan of yours! Seriously, you are my favorite author. Your stories – especially the Son of Suns trilogy – helped me through some tough times… I read the Trilogy first a little more than a year ago – last spring. I had a very… difficult time with my life, to put it lightly… and the Trilogy helped me through every single day. Gave me something to concentrate on, an “exit” from my life (I read it instead of studying – I failed most of my exams, but it was worth it – I’ve never regretted it for a moment). I loved every piece of it.
“Into the Storm”, the first part, showed me something I experienced firsthand: how you can simply survive your days without a real purpose – just existing. You turned Luke inside-out, burned him, and from his ashes, Palpatine’s Wolf emerged…You gave him an entirely new identity. It was fascinating, the way you showed us his fall, how he changed from day to day. I couldn’t believe Leia’s betrayal, and it always remained a sore point for me. But I absolutely LOVE “your” Han: the way he believes in Luke, no matter what – that he remained a true friend to him.
The second part, the “In Shadows…” is my favorite from the trilogy (but I’m not sure – I love every fic all the same….). I liked the romance between our little Wolf and Mara, the cautious relationship between Luke and his father; Han’s friendship… and Hallin! I’ve read a few hundred fanfictions in my life, but Nathan Hallin is my favorite OC EVER. I liked him from the start, but when I saw him in the second part of your Trilogy, his easy friendship with Luke, his steadfast concern for him – well, I became a Nathan-fan very quickly. The assassination attempt was unexpected and exciting, and Vader’s death… well, I cried for him. I experienced a few months later what Luke must have felt when Mara betrayed him, and before that, the burning desire to trust in someone you love… And the duel between Palpatine and Luke! Well, that was something. It made me sweat, seriously.
“At the Brink of the Dawn and Darkness” was full of surprises. I liked Luke as the Emperor; his little talks with Leia, the forbidden love concerning Mara (and their son! I almost fainted when I worked it out)… and our new “bad guy”, Madine. He’s… I find it very easy to hate him, ‘coz he’s so full of bullsh… nevermind ’. I couldn’t quite work out Kiria D’Arca, through; she’s an enigma to me, I never really understood her. Call me a cry-girl, but I cried over the last chapter and the Epilogue… I could have read on forever. :(
Your Trilogy is very important to me; I’ve re-read it a month ago, and I believe I’ll do it again soon :)

And about the “Empire’s Son”… well, I dunno why, but I was somewhat reluctant to read it. Maybe my reason was that it’s a completely different world. But two weeks ago (when I FINALLY had my last exam) I started to read it. I thought that the Trilogy had some traumatic things in it, but Empire’s Son beat it. Little Luke’s story touched me deeply, filled me with horror; but the fic grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. It was a shaky start, but I became more and more interested in the story, because, my friend, you know how to write new things! The twists with Luke’s and Leia’s life paths, their new identity, it was so… new. It’s a heavy story, and Palpatine is an asshole, sorry, I got to write it, but he screwed-up Luke’s life spectacularly. The whole “Kenobi is Luke’s father so Vader hates him while Leia is being trained by Kenobi, knowing that she’s Vader’s daughter”-storyline made me pause and ask a big, loud ‘WHUT?!’ a few times xD And Han, oh, Han, his real concern for the kid, the way he finally saw how screwed-up the whole situation was… it was refreshing and hope-giving. Indo’s character is OK, I guess, but it was hard for me to understand his motives. How can he NOT feel something – anything – for Luke? How could he just “raise” him, “hold him together” without asking ‘man, what the hell am I doing here with this poor kid?’
And the end. Vader’s and Palpatine’s death, Luke’s assumed demise… OK, so I cried all over my phone again, especially when I thought Luke died, too (you are evil sometimes… in the best meaning, no offense, really, but you nearly broke my damn heart by making me think he died in the end…).
But I’ve forgiven you a moment later, when I read “Empire’s Son II”… I laughed in joy… so you better post it sometime soon, because I’m waiting for it for now on :)

Oooh, and just one more thing… the images you made for the stories… You have some serious talents *.* I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw them. They are AWESOME. Especially the changes you made with Luke’s profile… Aww, I just love them, I’ve never saw something so… completed…. and satisfying… before.

Keep writing! :) And have a great summer ;)

This story is absolutely amazing! It's taken me quite a long time to read it, it is very long haha. But I've loved everything about it. Your writing is great, the interaction among the characters is fantastic. This story is so creative and deep and intriguing, I'd say it rivals the movies! Thanks for such a great read!

I have no words to describe how this fiction is fantastic! Honestly, I read this story with so much pleasure. Everything is beautifully described and the characters are so deep and precise. Everything is well controlled. Thank you for all that great work which made me full of emotions and live pleasant moments of reading. Please let me know when you start part two! It would make me so happy! I can't wait to know what will happen next!
Thanks again for everything!
Sorry if there are some mistakes. English isn't my native language.

This story was so wonderfully written. I loved every minute of it, even if super long chapters on a mobile aren't very fun (especially when the mobile dies... And you have to scroll through trying to find where you were and are constantly getting accidental spoilers...). I've been reading this off and on for the last 6 months or so, and got so invested in this story. So much so I almost started crying when I thought you had killed off Luke. This story was beautiful in its incredible, yet not overly-heavy descriptions of people, places, and the way everyone was thinking. One of my favorite scenes was the bridge of whichever ship as the Ram came flying in. It was done very well, and the way you captured everything was marvelous. Reading that scene gave me an insight to your writing style, more so than any other, because of how realistic it was; that could've been any ship.
Jason Brody chapter 34 . 3/15/2014
Beautifully written story, a true piece of well written literature. I really like how you went into Vader's mind at the end. When will you be updating new stories?
thebicky chapter 34 . 3/9/2014
OMGOMGOMG SEQUEL?! please hurry.
(OFC, you're the author and you have the right to do whatever you like, but still! I would love you infinitely more if you posted more of the sequel)
:D

I've been a bit busy lately, BUT I FINALLY FINISHED! This is an absolutely amazing story, I love it heaps! Yeah, I already dropped both praise and criticism, but the biggest and by far the best thing is the fact that you completed a story of this magnitude. Most people never do, so you are absolutely amazing for sticking with it this whole time. Yeah, awesome work. :D
thebicky chapter 4 . 2/24/2014
Last criticism: as I said before, there's a lot of detail in this fic. That's a great thing - it makes the story seem far more professional and it makes me admire you all the more because I can't see a single plot hole in this freaking 300k words fic. But at the same time, the detail kind of makes me bored. For example, in Luke and Leia's fight scene after Kenobi was killed, I read about 200 words of action before I skipped straight to the dialogue. I'd rather see their emotions/interactions than read a 10-page description on their fight. So, your greatest strength is also your greatest weakness.
thebicky chapter 3 . 2/24/2014
Another thing: the plot moves too slowly because it's often encumbered with details. Actually, scratch that. The story doesn't incorporate enough of the canon plot line. Personally, I like seeing how an author cleverly manipulates the canon storyline, which is why I like fanfiction more than fiction press. But that's a personal choice, and you've probably been aiming for something more original anyway. In any case, you've written well enough to capture my attention for the entire fic (almost hahaha I haven't finished yet)
thebicky chapter 2 . 2/24/2014
Han Solo and Luke are way too buddy-buddy. Realistically speaking, I don't think Luke would've opened up so much to Han. I mean, letting Han in on his parentage? Probably not. But hey, for the sake of moving the plot along, I can see why they've gotten so close in such a short time.
