I think the Jounin are missing a rather important point in their conversation about specializations. Just because Hinata and Ino CAN do everything that Sakura can, especially in regards to the medical specialization, that doesn't at mean they HAVE to. In the same vein, just because Sakura doesn't bring much of her own to the table, that doesn't render her useless to the team. In fact, having either of the other two girls have more than two specs would be drawing them rather thin as far as roles within the team go.

With Hinata, you have her obvious sensing/scouting spec, with her bloodline, as well as a viable front line combatant. Likewise, Ino is delving into her family techniques, which involve sensory and information gathering, as well as putting the jutsus themselves to good use spreading chaos and capturing targets of opportunity. Granted, this is only in the short term, since the entire team will likely be branching out more later on, but that's just my analysis for the short term.

There IS, however, one specialization that wasn't mentioned, that being long ranged support/sniping. Sakura does have an excellent head for numbers, as well as the focus necessary for proper sniping. Things like wind speed, distance to target, projectile drop, all must be taken into account. Considering this is the Naruto world, her most likely weapons with be either a longbow of some sort, possibly strung by chakra strings to make it viable at long distances (something Sakura also has, or may eventually have, the control for), or some kind of high powered crossbow. Although you did mention guns in the form of the Enten-Hari, I can't really see it fitting in ANYWHERE on the team.

Even better, were she to dual-spec as a medic, that would be perfect, as they're generally relegated to rear lines anyway. So while she's not tending wounded, she's busy making more on the other side, from extreme long range, providing cover fire for her own team. Also, being a medic, she'd have the knowledge of anatomy, and the chakra control, to use some kind of generic eyesight magnification technique, possibly by reshaping the eye to focus at longer distances, or providing a chakra contact lens to artificially magnify her sight, so she wouldn't have to rely on sniping equipment.

Give her a good vantage point to take a shot, and she can also sitrep, coordinating with other team members for maximum efficiency. That might be a bit open, but at a long enough range, not out of the question.

Just a (really long) thought as far as Sakura's development goes, if you aren't going with canon or have your own plans. Excellent story, truly unique. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to chapter ten (I read ahead before posting this review.)

God damn I love this story and am grateful for the update. Occasionally I need my fanfiction fix and this is what I often end up just rereading, and I was delighted with the extra chapters. Specifically, your characters show real growth, and real backstory scars, and a somewhat darker theme than most other stories out there. Love your work, keep it up.

It's good, it's well written and i like your idea. Now that i have read all of it as it currently stands i feel somewhat underwhelmed though. It's so slow. I appreciate that you're diverting a lot from canon, and that you're going a lot deeper into character development but... 122,953 words. you started after graduation and still havn't gotten around to D-ranks or anything significant happening. 122,953 words and at the end of it I just feel like iv been tricked into reading filler.

Interesting solution with the rotating teams and all - I actually expect the Sasuke/Hinata/Kiba team to work particularly well. {Hinata wouldn't be falling all over Sasuke, or herself as if w/ Naruto, and Sasuke's exercise-competence paired with Kiba's energetic-confidence could help her w/ her confidence.}

Very interesting. Very nicely done so far. You've got a real talent for capturing the voice of each character, and have really managed to snowball things through one very small change to canon. I'm definitely eager to see more.

I like the story very much so far. Rather well written, feels reasonably well paced if occasionally a bit slow. I think the only real issue I have is that the Kiba POV bits with shades of grey really tend to confuse me, it ends up jolting me out of the story as I go back to check if there's a reason why the person has grey hair, or if it was Kakashi instead of Naruto, or just a reminder of what's going on. I admit it's sort of cute what you're trying to do with it, but that doesn't stop it from being something that really does take away from the story when readers get confused or otherwise jolted out of their reading by an inconsistency. That's the only bit of constructive criticism I have though, the rest has been pretty fun and I'll be looking forward to the next chapter.

This is one of the best Naruto fics I've read, hands down. I love that that genin are all getting some of the spotlight while the jounin are working behind the scenes. It's all very dynamic and well thought out.
